TOPIC:

Understand that it's possible to upgrade my DDRC to Dirac 3.0 - can anyone tell me:

a) will I have to take new measurements if I upgrade?

b) is there any actual improvement to sound quality compared to 2.0?

Be great to hear from anyone that's already done this. I'm running a 2.1 stereo system.

The simple answer is that you will be able to use the filters already loaded on your DDRC24 with altering them but that will not be using any of the advances and gains in the Dirac 3.0 software.

In order to get the full use of the Dirac 3.0 software then you will have to do a complete new session using 3.0 and then export the result to your DDRC24.

My own personal view is that there is much ti be gained by using 3.0 and there are quite certainly sonic gains in the new software that provides a smoother and more intergrated sound quality . It is worth the extra work of doing a new session to get the audio benefits .

I would very much agree with Bencat - there is much to be gained by running a full Dirac calibration scan using the V3 software (now 3.0.11). I have just done this on two different systems in the last couple of days - the first was already on an earlier V3 rev, so I didn't notice much of a difference, but the second system that I upgraded today was still on V1, and the improvement was quite surprising to my ears (in a good way!).

You guys were right. I am actually a bit staggered at the improvement over 2.0 - now have much clearer stereo imaging and separation, and bass is really noticably dryer and better defined also.

Am so impressed with the minidsp dirac devices. It's like getting a free upgrade every time Dirac improves their software. Saves me significant money through not feeling the need to make other upgrades on speakers etc. - for the time being at least

Yes - those were pretty much the improvements I heard too. Much improved imaging and clarity.
