Hi,

I have a DDRC-22D, and the 22D software and Dirac Live 3.05 on my Windows 10 computer. Computer is connected via USB to DDRC-22D.
Music comes from the same PC via optical cable to DDRC-22D, and from there also optical to a T+A DAC 8 DSD (PCM signal only).
I start the Dirac software from within DDRC-22D software, UMIK-1 is recognized, calibration file loaded. DAC locks automatically to 96 kHz.
But then: whatever I try, in Volume Calibration there is no sound from my speakers. Playing with master volume in either DDRC-22D software, the manual knob on the device or through the master slider does not work. The mike works when I talk in it.
I tried calibrating from another PC (laptop), same issue.
The funny thing is that I can play music through the DDRC-22D. But as I said: no sound in Volume Calibration. When I skip the calibration and try Measurements, still no sound.
Also checked all the microphone and sound settings in Windows 10 on both PC's.
Tried Dirac 3.00, 3.05 and 3.08. Same issue.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you selected the correct input source on the ddrc22?

Yes, the optical led is on, and I can play music through the 22D via the optical cables.

How does the Dirac software send calibration signals to the 22D? It seems that those signals do not reach, or do not go through the optical cable. Everything seems ok in Windows.

Don't have a 22.
Calibration signals are sent via USB to the miniDSP unit.

Sorry to be stating the obvious but on the ddrc22 input have you selected USB?

Thank you, good question. I asked myself the same this afternoon. On the 22D you can not select USB as an input. It's Optical, AES-EBU or SPDIF/Coax. The USB port on the back is for PC control, and can not be selected. So I still wonder where the calibration sounds should come from.

Got it working! By playing music on a low level, and then starting Dirac, the pink noise and the test tones work. Strange, and I informed the support team.

I got a very useful reply from Dirac in Sweden: what you were actually experiencing had to do with the way that we handle sound streams. That is, our desktop software "hijacks" the sound stream of your device to play our calibration and measurement tones, so you need to have constant noise playing during the setup process. Sorry if we didn't make that clear—we're working on updating our Quick Start materials right now. We recommend loading and playing something like the linked file, which is 30 minutes of gapless noise, before and during measurement: live.dirac.com/content/uploads/2020/05/30min-noise.mp3. Then, the device's sound stream should be properly "hijackable" for use.

This same principle applies to 3.x versions of the software, which should hopefully work as expected otherwise.

I’m having the same issue except I cannot get any sound through the mini DSP. I’m connecting and aes/ebu cable from my auralic streamer to the digital input on the mini DSP. I’ve run both the coax out and optical out and no sound. I also get no sound when trying the test tones in the calibration.

Hi,

After a lot of experimentation I managed to solve this issue. My solution: play some music or a youtube video on a very low volume, and then start the calibration. Let the music or video play while you do the calibration. The test tones are so much louder that there will be no negative influence from the music on your measurements.
It seems that some signal is needed by the MiniDSP. I informed the MiniDSP helpdesk about this.

Good luck!
Ron

Something came to my mind: you absolutely need a USB connection between your computer with the Dirac software and the MiniDSP while calibrating. The USB connection is for all communication between your computer and the MiniDSP. After you finished the calibration you upload your filters from computer to MiniDSP, and then you can remove the USB cable.

Regards, Ron

I tried that last night and I can’t get any sound to play through the mini DSP. I tried just streaming some music through it and nothing. I’m streaming from an Auralic Aries G1. I wonder if there’s something with the Auralic that doesn’t play nice with the mini DSP. I might have a Bluetooth receiver I can try with.
