Hi all, my first post here, so please be patient.

I just started using a DDRC-24 and DL 3.0 to calibrate a stereo system. I've managed to create Dirac Live presets and upload them to the corresponding filters on my DDRC-24 no problem, but I'm confused by the following.

When I connect the miniDSP app, I can see under the config window in Dirac Inputs (routing) that my Dirac 1 is at 0.0dB and 0ms. However, my Dirac 2 is on -2.5dB and 8.56ms delay. When I look via the DL app in the same preset I can see that both speakers impulse responses were pushed back by 8ms.

Also, my level balance is then completely incorrect, and I have to correct my Dirac 1 (left) by -9.5dB for it to sound equally balanced. Note that it sounds fairly level without any correction, so definitely doesn't need more than 3dB of correction to sound balanced.

Questions are -

1 - Should the impulse response correction on DL be visible in miniDSP under the Routing Tab of the same preset/config, and if so, why is it not showing both channels being corrected?

2 - Is the Routing tab just a reflection of what DL has done, and can't be changed within miniDSP? If so, there doesn't appear to be anyway to adjust it in DL either!?

Hi, your second screenshot shows that one speaker has that 8.5 ms delay on it, which DL then compensates for. Are your speakers the same distance from the mic? It looks like your measurement is quite noisy, so my guess would be that's the root cause.

Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion. They're both the same distance from the mic (+/-1cm). What I'm confused by is that it looks like DL has shifted the impulse response of both speakers according to the second screenshot, but only 1 channel shows up in miniDSP, hence the two not 'in sync'.

It's showing the latency through the device, I think that's what you are referring to (?)

Yes, I can understand the DDRC is showing the latency that DL has applied on Dirac 2. But DDRC is showing no latency on Dirac 1, when there is definitely also latency applied by DL on Dirac 1. I feel like there's something rather basic that I've missed here.

"Latency" refers to the inherent delay through the device. Dirac Live adds additional delay to one channel. The DDRC-24 plugin displays only the latter.

There's a checkbox "Show latency" which can be (or used to be able to be . . your screenshot appears to have it greyed out) used to turn the latency on the graph on/off. I don't know how accurate that is anyway.

Thanks for your help so far, it's helping me understand Dirac and DDRC a lot better.

So I've redone Dirac and taken a few more screenshots. From what I can see and understand, Dirac is applying roughly 8ms to each channel. I'm then saving this as Preset 1, which is Config 1 in DDRC.

However, then when I load up Config 1, I still only see latency applied to Dirac 2 and not Dirac 1. Is is supposed to be like that? I would think that both latencies applied would have been loaded into Config 1 ?

Ok, so I think I understand it this way.

What I see is:
DL is applying extra 0.08ms of delay to channel Dirac 2 so that it is aligned to channel Dirac 1. DDRC doesn't show what the delay of both channels are (~8ms), just the difference between Dirac 1 and Dirac 2 applied by DL.

Thanks John for your patience, it took a while, but I'm definitely seeing good results and potential from DDRC24 w/ Dirac Live. Thanks again for your advice throughout.
