Could anyone explain what makes Dirac better than other room correction algorithms such as the room correction that is built in to Genelec monitors, the new Buchardt active monitors, Audyssey, etc?

I think I read that it corrects “impulse response” whereas maybe the others don’t? But I don’t know what that is or how useful it really is.

Any explanation of what makes Dirac technology special would be greatly appreciated.

This is likely more technical than you want but:

diracdocs.com/on_room_correction.pdf

I'm not familiar with what the Genelec software does but in simple terms Dirac is different from basic room correction in that it attempts to be 'smarter' about what to 'correct' and what not to, how it does it and also improves the impulse response as you say.

Can you comment on the advisability of using both room corrections simultaneously? What if I used the room correction built into the monitors, but also used Dirac Live in an upchain MiniDSP afterwards? Would it defeat the Dirac advantage of not correcting more than necessary and would it also incur other potential problems?

I would personally jut use Dirac as I see no upside of separately running the software with the monitors. On the other hand, if you're happy with what the monitor software does I probably wouldn't buy something with Dirac on it in the first place.

It used to be possible to get a free trial of Dirac to run on a PC/MAC. If this would work for you as a sound source I'd check out if you still can, so that you can see what you think.
