Hi there,

I am having a hard time in trying to figure out the differences between Dirac 2.0 over the older 1.0, apart from the redesigned interface.
I read that Dirac 2.0 does phase correction, which surprised me because I though Dirac 1.0 was doing that already. Can someone explain the differences?

I already have 1.0 and I am considering to upgrade to version 2.0, but this would require a new Mac. I am trying to figure out if this would be worth it. In my system I run two main speakers and one sub, via a Minidsp SHD studio.

Thanks in advance

I believe it means they link the left and right (phase) rather than doing them independently. Makes sense I suppose.

Must be an old Mac you have? Be aware the laptops don't have USB-A ports on them any more. I wouldn't buy one.

Thank you.
Has anyone noticed any differences in sound as a result of using Dirac 2.0 vs version 1.0? I am particularly interested in the opinion of those having a 2.1 set up.

It is difficult to compare the two, because you have to upgrade everything to make 2.0 work, by which time, loading up the 1.0 configurations is not straightforward. If you leave your old 1.0-based config in one of the DDRC's slots, it will survive the upgrade as long as you don't re-set the configuration, so you could then set up a 2.0-based configuration in one of the other 3 slots and compare, but I didn't do this. However, my impression is that the end result gives better imaging on my current project than I was getting on V1.0, but it is only an impression. The improvement in the way the interface works is a good enough reason to do the upgrade IMHO, regardless of audio differences.

Be aware, by the way, that if you have any target curves that you use regularly in 1.0 you need to do a small amount of work to get them to be usable in 2.0. In 1.0 they were stored in a different location to where 2.0 stores its project files (at least that is true in Windows, dunno about MAC) and the extension used has been changed - the content of the files otherwise seems to be the same in both versions. In 1.0, the target curves have the extension ".txt" and are stored in C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Dirac\OEM\MiniDSP\Targets. In 2.0, they are stored in C:\Users\<Your User Name>\Dirac\targets and have an extension of ".targetcurve". Copy the old files to the new location, rename the extensions, and they should be good to go.

Only difference that I read awhile back was

Dirac makes the transfer functions match
In 2.0 it considers the comb-filtering caused by a path length difference based on how much delay it detects between channels.

Otherwise the same general algo that I’m aware of otherwise....haven’t read anything else besides that one thing.
