(I had posted this on another thread, but I suspect it was too far outside the initial scope of that thread.)

I'm feeding audio from Mac to DDRC24 over USB. As the internal processing of the DDRC24 is 48 kHz. does this tell you anything useful about what the optimal setting should be on the Mac "Audio Devices" USB output settings?

Specifically: the default on the Mac is to output to the USB at "16-bit 44.1KhZ". But would it improve things to change this to 48kHz? And would it improve things to increase the bit depth?

Or - I guess to put this another way - is it better to choose this Mac USB output setting to:
A ) match the source files (eg typical CD is 16bit 44.1kHz) - so that there is no digital resampling on the Mac
B ) match the miniDSP internal speed (48)
C ) maybe alternatively to max-out the USB Mac output at 24-bit 192kHz?

Thanks.

It is better to use it as 24bit 48khz as this is what it is capable of, you should get a lower latency with the 48khz as well :)
There is no need for resampling, it'll just adjust to the sample that comes out. Modern music is often 24bit 48khz rather than CD quality anyways.

Hi - thanks:

Given that all of my music has come from ripping my CDs, it is all stored at 44.1kHz digitised sampling rate.

Hence it will have to be resampled to 48, one way or another - *either* on the Mac (if I select that output option) or on the miniDSP (given that it works at 48 internally). So I was wondering if anyone knew if either option is better.

Thanks.
