DDRC-24 + Dirac 2 for Sub Only Application? 3 years 10 months ago #45244

I have been successfully using a DDRC-24 + Dirac 1 for a Sub only application (Denon sub out => DDRC-24 => Sub). I recently updated the DDRC-24 to use Dirac 2 but I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to work for my sub only application. I just updated to the latest versions of Minidsp and Dirac2 again today (11/27/2019) and tried again. I have attached the errors that I receive during the attempt to make the first Dirac 2 measurement (get one error or the other each attempt). The freq sweep sounds fine out of the sub. I believe the problem is that the Dirac 2 software expects to see a response over the entire freq range and not just the lower freq range covered by the sub.

Is there any way to limit the desired freq range for Dirac 2? Any other suggestions?

@rkj001

Dirac 2.0 indeed expects full range when doing a sweep. That's why you're getting that error for the new algorithm.
As a workaround, maybe see if you could connect one main speaker (e.g. Left speaker) just for the purpose of having a full range signal during the sweep. i.e. IN1/OUT1 = Left, IN2/OUT2=Sub. Once the measurement done, you can disconnect the left speaker.

I have not tried Dirac 2 for my DDRC-24 sub only application for quite a while now. I see that the Dirac 2 software is now up to version 2.5.3 and the DDRC-24 software is now 1.9 (Jan 8 2020). Does anyone know if it is now possible to set the frequency range of interest prior to taking a measurement? Dirac has indicated that it should be possible to do this but I could not find a way in the older software versions. Perhaps this is a limitation of the miniDSP implementation?

I haven't seen a way to limit the frequency range. Is it a major problem though? Making full frequency range measurements on my subwoofers hasn't bothered me.

I could never get a Dirac 2 frequency sweep to complete successfully without an error using latest versions of software as of 11/27/2019 (see original post in this thread for error messages). Are you using a miniDSP device with outputs connected to only subs or also speakers so you get more of a full range response in your measurements? I was just wondering if it worth upgrading all of the software to the latest versions and trying again? The conclusion from Dirac was that I needed to limit the frequency range to prevent measurement errors.

Ah, sorry, I was missing the Dirac context. I've made full frequency range measurements of subwoofers with REW not Dirac Live.

Reading back through the thread I'm actually surprised DL v1 worked for you without a full range speaker. I've yet to see anyone commenting to say they've found going from Dirac v1 to v2 made a dramatic improvement so I'd be inclined to not worry too much about not being able to use v2 for now.
