Hi all

As the title suggests, I am having trouble setting up my minidsp. I have spent half a day (Saturdays.....) trying to get a signal output on the volume calibration page but I am getting zero output. I am using two full range floor standing speakers to start with and was simply trying to get Dirac up and running on these. I am using a desktop computer and a power amplifier along with a Umik-1.

My device is a 2x4HD which was upgraded to DDRC-24. Today is my first time trying to use the minidsp. As the Dirac 2.0 update was recently released, I started by upgrading all the relevant drivers etc that are in the zip file under user downloads. I also downloaded the Dirac software from the Dirac website. Through use of both the Dirac 2.0 manual and the old DDRC-24 manual I set up the DDRC application exactly as stated in the DDRC manual @ paragraph 4.3.1 for a simple stereo setup.

Through the DDRC application I then used the "Start Dirac Live Software" button to access Dirac 2.0. From there I selected the DDRC-24 and then input the mic calibration file for the Umik-1. Once this was done I went to "Proceed to Volume Calibration" this is the point at which things fell down. When I press play on both left and right speakers I am simply getting no output. The power amplifier is working correctly but just to make sure I tried an integrated amplifier and even with the variable volume on that, I still couldn't get any output from the speakers at all.

On the computer (Windows 10) itself I set the audio output device to the DDRC and made sure the volume is at 100, I also made sure that in the DDRC application the input was set to USB. Just to try something different I changed the input to Toslink and input a pink noise signal from a streamer, the input registered on the DDRC application but still there was nothing coming out of the speakers. Weirdly, when changing inputs I did hear a click sound, which suggests the minidsp is perfectly capable of outputting a signal, I am just absolutely baffled why I can't get the Volume Calibration to work though. I also tried skipping the volume calibration step and going directly to the actual measurements (picture of a couch and measurement positions) this doesn't output any signal to the speakers either.

Can someone help with this please as I have read both manuals inside out and I can't figure this out, right now I am pretty frustrated having spent a decent amount of money on the minidsp. So, anybody have any ideas please? As I am banging my head off a wall here.

Thanks everyone

Hi -

Which outputs are you connected to?

Please post a screenshot of your routing matrix.

Thanks for the response.

I returned to this task this morning, the only thing I changed was which USB port the minidsp was connected to. All of a sudden........ Its working fine, makes no sense but obviously user error, though I am not sure what I was doing wrong. I have progressed through the measurements and carried out my first curve using the armchair position and the default Dirac curve. Its definitely bass shy, though I had heard to try the Soda position if this happens, so plenty tuning will be needed.

However, Dirac makes a dramatic difference, my room is not the best for sound but with Dirac on, the soundstage lowers to head level and widens quite a bit. Separation of instruments has also dramatically changed, timing also. Switching back from Dirac, everything sounds REALLY hollow. And so it begins....

Thanks all

I'm having the same problem No output after upgrade. Input looks good. For testing purposes I set all outputs on the routing but no channel is showing any level

I'm having the same exact problem, this is a definite bug that needs to be fixed!

I can change the volume up but once dirac is clicked on, same thing - stuck at -95db with no way to fix it. Seriously?

Dtec, don't blame yourself that is a straight up bug, minidsp and their dev team are failing big time with this product - total slop...

Another new user here that upgraded a 2x4 HD to DDRC-24.
As a 2x4 HD, everything worked perfectly. Now after upgrading, I have no output (I can see input levels fluctuating) but Master Volume is at -95.5dB

Is there some way to adjust this master volumne?

Hi, please click in the field that shows -95db and overwrite with 0. Be careful as outgoing signal is loud as hell now

Hope that helps

Thanks!
I actually stumbled across that myself shortly after posting my comment.
It's not very obvious that you can even change that value. It simply looks like an indicator....and not a user-configurable volume setting.
Also is weird that it even set itself to -95dB...but that's a different discussion.
