Dear All,

Here is a summary thread that will hopefully help new updates based on information we've learned from all the thousands of installs out there. This thread has content shared by some end users and we thank all the feedback received from all community members! We'll keep updating as we go along and update the manual as well with some edits. We'll also work with Dirac in the future to improve/simplify the process and prevent some of the pitfalls (E.g. port blocked). Feel free to share if any questions.

Release note logs
04/09/2019: First release
16/09/2019: Adding UMIK-1 tips&tricks + new ports

Compatibility:
- Dirac 2.0 is only compatible with Win10 and Mojave as per their website. Please make sure to use a PC/MAC running such OS. Earlier/newer versions (E.g. OSx Catalina) won't be supported at this stage.
- Older Macs running Mojave may run into some issues with Dirac 2.2.3 version. Please try Dirac Live 2.2 build from here: live.dirac.com/all-released-versions/

Installation:
- Please make sure to keep the default folder as it may affect the ability for Dirac 2.0 server to discover the unit. If you already installed Dirac in another folder than the default one, easiest to uninstall the plugin, You may need to reset the Dirac startup path of the "Start Dirac Live Software" button by do the steps below:
1. Close the DDRC-24/DDRC-22/SHD plugin
2. Go to "My Documents\MiniDSP\xxxxx\user" folder where xxxx is the device name (DDRC-24/DDRC-22/SHD)
3. Delete the preferences.xml and then re-open the plugin to start the Dirac Live software again.

Some very important comments for Win/Mac:
- Please check make sure that a umik-1 is plugged to PC when opening the app else Dirac 2.0 won't discover your miniDSP device.
- Make sure the umik-1 is set to default recording device and that it is correctly enabled in "Control Panel" → "Sound" → "Recording".
- Make sure that you permit the app access to the UMIK-1 microphone in the Windows 10 Security settings. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone, and flip the toggle under "Allow apps to access your microphone" to On. Dirac Live must be selected as an application with access to the microphone.
- Some customers had to go to Settings > Privacy > Other Devices and turn on communication with unpaired devices.

Security/Firewall/Ports
- Dirac live uses port 11113, 11115 and 11117, 5000 and 8080. Make sure that your firewall isn't blocking these ports as Dirac bridging app need these two ports to talk between device and Dirac Live. Under Win10, you can check by opening command prompt and type:
netstat -ano | findstr 8080
and
netstat -ano | findstr 5000
If no output, it will be all good. Else, try to close the app which used those ports.

- Under OSx, you can check by opening Terminal and type:
sudo lsof -n -i4TCP:8080 | grep LISTEN
And to test for port 5000:
sudo lsof -n -i4TCP:5000 | grep LISTEN
If no output, it will be all good. Else, try to close the app which used those ports.

Starting Dirac Live:
- Dirac 2.0 is "very" different from an operation standpoint compared to Dirac 1.0. We require a bridge application at the back so we can configure the unit. That bridge server application will ONLY work if you start Dirac live from the plugin using the "Start Dirac live" button. You will NOT be able to discover your unit if you start Dirac 2.0 separately.

Any questions, please start a tech support ticket with our Team (support.minidsp.com). Once again a reminder that it's the official path for all tech support by our team. Thanks for your understanding.

What is the difference between hamburger icon Save project and save target curve in Snapshots ?
Each time the curve saved a different file type.
Thank you, Tomas

Hi Thomas,

Don’t quote me but I think the what your talking about is

The target saves the target (response shape that can be used on any measurement)

Project saves the measurements.
It also I think saves whatever the shape of target you have when you hit save project.

Hope that helps some

Completely new user interface and I quote 'mehlau.net/audio/dirac-live-2/': a "simplified test signal/mic level setting, automated crossover selection or crossover splice optimization"

Also general improvements on how the program performs.

P.s. I am not a moderator. I just researched it.

I was getting "No devices found" in DIRAC Live v2.2.3, despite
following all the advice in the manuals. Mac Mojave. The problem was
solved eventually with help from the UK supplier (Soundimports), who
were extremely fast, responsive and knowledgable. I can't say the
same for miniDSP who have not replied to my support-request emails on
this. Also it's a bit annoying that the manuals have so many errors.

Anyway.....the advice in the forum thread says:
Security/Firewall/Ports
- Dirac live uses port 11113, 11115 and 11117, 5000 and 8080.
Make sure that your firewall isn't blocking these ports as Dirac bridging app
need these two ports to talk between device and Dirac Live.
[removed Windows comments as I'm on Mac]
- Under OSx, you can check by opening Terminal and type:
sudo lsof -n -i4TCP:8080 | grep LISTEN
And to test for port 5000:
sudo lsof -n -i4TCP:5000 | grep LISTEN
If no output, it will be all good. Else, try to close the app which used those ports.

Indeed when I ran this I found that an app (AirServer) that I need to
keep (so, no, I can't "try to close" it) was using port 5000. I tried
a few other random ports and found that 5002 was not being used, so
then - on advice of the suppliers, ran the following in a terminal:

/Applications/miniDSP/DDRC-24.app/Contents/Resources/add/minidsp_dirac -p 5002

This DOES solve the problem, albeit in a messy way:

1) You have to leave this running in the terminal while you are then
using DIRAC LIVEv2:

2) Start the DDRC-24 plugin the normal way. While the above is still
running, the plugin cannot access the device, but it CAN still start
DIRAC with the normal button.

3) Then (finally) DIRAC will run and you can use it fine. Once you
are finished with DIRAC you can close it, kill the command in the
terminal, and then restart the DDRC-24 plugin for normal use. But if
you need to run DIRAC again you need to go through all the above
again.

BTW while I was waiting for help with all the above I tried installing
DIRAC Live v1 (which you can't get from DIRAC but you can get from
miniDSP), and this has no problems at all. BTW I liked v1 much more
than v2 - seems like it is much more mature and solid and well-written
(eg the mike-levels setup was very sensible in v1 and made almost no
sense with the help-text in v2).

Thanks for your useful comments and findings.
Maybe you can temporarily close the screen mirroring by AirServer during the limited time that is necessary for running the calibration?
As you know once your filters have been uploaded to your DDRC-24 you can enable AirServer again and disconnect your computer.

With reference to Dirac Live 1.x vs. Dirac Live 2.x, the latter can offer an improved listening quality because of the new phase matching of speaker pairs that I hope you will appreciate once you'll have used it.

Best regards, Flavio

Hi - with respect to the DIRAC Live v2 "phase matching" - I assume this is a separate thing from the miniDSP "gain/delay" processing (which AFAIK sits outside of the DIRAC processing)? Is there any more detailed information anywhere about the phase matching? Is this setting relative phase for a speaker as a whole, or is it frequency-dependent?

Thanks.

It phase matches the speakers (changes the phase throughout the whole FR differently, e.g. 40hz 10deg. but 90hz 3deg.
This makes the audio response at listening positions as equal as possible throughout the spectrum and helps reduce room modes (supposedly). It also makes the impulse response from the speaker better, reducing and evening the group delay of the drivers and of the speakers.

Dear miniDSP team
Sounds great that an update to Dirac 2.0 is available. But I have problems to understand the update procedure. My current Dirac 1.x on 2x4HD (+ DDRC-24 update + UMIK-1) is running on Win10 for years now. Is there a possibility to install Dirac 2.x in parallel or extra PC?
I am willing to try all the tips and tricks but fear if I fail, my working system got lost inclusive my Dirac license.

The user manual suplement document recomend to download two parts of software for an update.
1. live.dirac.com (I downloaded WinVersion 2.3 )
2. miniDSP (sorry, I cannot find any Dirac 2 related software in download section for 2x4HD DDRC-24. I was loged in sucessfully.

In addition I need some more hints about the components.
1. DiracLive v2.3.0 is windows application.
2. New plugin is for windows or for windows application or for the USB connected DSP device?
3. Update the firmware. Is there a new firmware available?
4. What are the UAC drivers?
How can I start a plugin before start the software application? Sorry I am confused.

It would be a pleasure for me to run the latest Dirac version and I hope you can support me. Thank you so much in advance!

Dear miniDSP team,

I have tested in my Macbook Pro Mid 2012 i5 16GB Mojave OS. Dirac version 2.23 (crashes), then suggested by Dirac support I moved to 2,3 (it doesn't crash, connects to DDRC-22A but when I reach the volume calibration section an d start to calibrate it looses the connection with DDRC-22A and it stops the process and I can't move on. I tried also the Dirac version 2.2 suggested by your Devteam, but happens the same as 2.3.

What am I supposed to do to use my minidsp DDRC-22A with Dirac 2.x?

Thank you in advance

I am using a mid 2012 Mac Pro 5.1 running Mojave. I have been through all kinds of weird stuff to get this all talking. The list you should try is 1. go to settings, sharing, and turn file sharing on. 2. go to settings audio and make sure Umik 1 is input and DDRC is output. 3. Make sure your mini DSP has the latest firmware update (released 1-6-20). Restart your mac and reboot power to the Mini DSP. 4. Launch DDRC app and push the launch Dirac Live button, as soon as it launches quit it, go to finder and launch Dirac Live directly. You will know if all is well by the app finding your DDRC. follow the steps and get to level settings. you should hear the audio noise on left and right, and see the meter on the mic level go up. (the fader should be set at 0) If the sound is not coming out, go to your ddc app and check the master level window in the upper right. It should be 0 not -95. then go back to the Dirac app and try to get measurements. It will let you know when you are successful! These are the steps that made it work for me.

According to Dirac's site the latest version supports High Sierra. Is there something different about the miniDSP hardware that only allows it to work with Mojave or newer?
