Hi all,

I have a NAD AVR with built-in Dirac Live, but only one subwoofer channel. I have two identical subwoofers, but rather than simply y-cabling them together, I'm thinking about adding a DDRC-24 to split the single output to two individually EQ'd outputs.

I've read through the guides that explain how to do this with the 2x4 and REW, and though I'm comfortable using REW, I've been impressed with Dirac, and would like to use it to get my subs coordinated. Intuitively, it seems like the best process would be:

  1. Use the DDRC-24's Dirac Live on the two subs, and apply the desired target curve.
  2. Once the two subs are coordinated downstream of the DDRC-24, attach the apparatus to the subwoofer output of the NAD AVR.
  3. Run the AVR's Dirac calibration on the full speaker suite, including the subwoofer collective (as one), and apply the same target curve.

Does that pass the sanity check? If so, two followups:

  1. Does Dirac account for phase and time alignment between the speakers and subs, such that the "Sub Distance Tweak" isn't necessary?
  2. Any word on whether the Dirac Bass Management Module is coming to the DDRC-24?
Thanks…

I'm not sure if there is an answer to this question in another thread, but I'm VERY KEEN to know if this answer will work. I'm planning to buy the NAD T778 and run dual subs.

I currently have a 2X4HD on my desktop 2.1 system that has REW applied. I'd like to know if spending more money in getting a DDRC with dirac will improve that.

Well, good news/bad news. ;)

I was never able to answer this particular question, but I ended up going with a 2X4HD without Dirac…IIRC it was because the Dirac Live version was built for stereo, not subwoofer coordination. So I took measurements with REW, and then threw Multi Sub Optimizer at it overnight and imported the results into the MiniDSP. I plugged everything into the back of the T777v3 and ran Dirac Live., and it worked well.

Now, as luck would have it, I've upgraded to a T778 (it's neat). I've moved the MiniDSP over, and I'll leave that in place until or unless the T778 gets Dirac Bass Management.

I’m in the exact same situation. I already have a DDRC 2x4HD that I current use for Dirac calibration for a. 2.1 system. I’m contemplating an Arcam receiver with Dirac Live, but only has 1 subwoofer output.

Can I use Dirac on the 2x4HD (since I already have it) to expand to 2 subs, or do I.need to trade up to the higher level receiver that has Dirac BM and multi sub integration.

You could, but it wouldn't be nearly as integrated as a Dirac BM setup. If my AVR gets a Dirac BM upgrade, I'll probably remove the 2x4HD from the signal chain and use it elsewhere.
