Pre-order a few weeks ago. Really looking forward to this!

If we assume that I have enough channels in my amps to have an active setup all around, I wanted to get people's thoughts on the best way to connect the 6 sets of components (14 speakers) + 1 sub to the CDSP 8x12 DL. Happy to add a 2x4 or something else, if I can get active speakers for all the speakers. Probably over kills, but why not?

SETUP
Fronts (FL, FR): Tweeters, 3" Mid, 6.5" Woofer
Rear doors (RL, RR): Tweeters, 6.5" Woofer
Rear tailgate (RRL, RRR): Tweeters, 6.5" Woofer
1 Subwoofer
(Head unit: Pioneer AVIC 8200-NEX)

Option 1
  1. FL: Tweeter
  2. FL: Mid
  3. FL: Woofer
  4. FR: Tweeter
  5. FR: Mid
  6. FR: Woofer
  7. RL: Tweeter
  8. RL: Woofer
  9. RR: Tweeter
  10. RR Woofer
  11. RRL two-way component (Tweeter+Woofer w/passive crossover)
  12. RRR two-way component (Tweeter+Woofer w/passive crossover)
  13. Subwoofer -- not sure how this would connect
Option 2
  1. FL: Tweeter
  2. FL: Mid
  3. FL: Woofer
  4. FR: Tweeter
  5. FR: Mid
  6. FR: Woofer
  7. RL: two-way component (Tweeter+Woofer w/passive crossover)
  8. RR: two-way component (Tweeter+Woofer w/passive crossover)
  9. RRL: two-way component (Tweeter+Woofer w/passive crossover)
  10. RRR: two-way component (Tweeter+Woofer w/passive crossover)
  11. Subwoofer

Do passives on rears or on any group s of speakers that are physically mounted very close together. Use active on fronts is what I would do and do passives on rears

But if you have two speakers close together the delay will be more same , and that delay is more important than an active crossover, a passive will perform just as good if executed correctly and has hi volt polypropylene capacitors like some solen caps or similar. If using passive try to stay away from high order and go 12-18db slopes on tweeter and 12db or 6db on mids woofers , the insertion loss and hysteris distortion will be audible at close distances with high order filers in a car .

Couple ideas , Or do a 2x4hd on sub and add a fir crossover to compliment Dirac .

Ah, yes. I have a Toyota 4Runner SUV and have speakers in the "rear trunk", often referred to as a "tailgate." The speakers face the front of the vehicle.

Here's a pic with the tailgate open.

Thanks! I currently have passive crossovers for each set of speakers.

3-ways for the fronts
2-ways for the rear doors
2-ways for the rear tailgate

My head unit can do time alignment. Think the 8x12 with DL will be significantly better or a modest improvement?

FWIW, I've added Dynamat in and out of all the doors and tailgate and all along the floor, and added a layer of Dynapad on floors.

If you've never heard Dirac Live filter it's pretty dramatic ...that said obviously in a vehicle the challenge is not only the environment but the listening position(s) IN that environment...it will be very interesting to see what DL filters can do with the inside of a vehicle... in my setup its Front L/R Rear L/R all bi-amped which IMO makes a huge difference. and my dual opposed subs in center console ...Can't wait to see what DL can do for my system even though its a bit pricey...

Figured I should start posting my thoughts here, hopefully we can keep everyone's tips, tricks etc in a single place.

In my case I did the upgraded firmware from the 8x12 to the 8x12DL, the upgrade process was very quick and easy, it took me longer to find something that I could use to copy the firmware files onto a MicroSD card than it did to do the actual upgrade. Getting the activation key was also a piece of cake, sent in the request on a Friday evening (EST) and had my activation key by Sunday around 10pm (EST, so about 10am HK time).

The software did crash on me 3 times while switching between presets, I would start on Pre4, go to Pre1, then going back to Pre4 it would crash. One of the options was to close the software, the other a reset. After the 3rd time I did the reset option and so far it has been good since, although I have not switched between the presets as much as am just concentrating on Preset 1 for now.

At the moment, I am trying to figure out the best options for routing, I am running
3 way front
rear fill
single sub

I attached what I have currently set up, but I am not convinced it is correct.

My main concerns are around rear fill and the subwoofer, I had been thinking of using Dirac 1 through 8 for all speakers individually except the subwoofer, then to manually tune the sub with the help of REW. On the Routing tab if I turn off Dirac 7 and Dirac 8 for Bass Mgt then I lose the sub. On the Mixer Tab, should I leave everything off under the sub?

For rear fill, in the 8x12 it was simple enough, so I tried to mirror that with Dirac 7 and Dirac 8 by inverting one of the inputs. I am using toslink, so only using Input7d and 8d

If anyone can help confirm what the subwoofer and rear fill settings should be on those that would be great. I have read the manual a few times, but cannot quite grasp it for some reason.

This is great seeing first adopters in here trailblazing :)

I haven't upgraded to the DL firmware nor have I used Dirac Live in any other realm but I am seriously considering it. As such, I've read through the manual.

From my understanding, the Dirac algorithm will automatically delay & eq each Dirac output individually. Because of this I don't think it's a good idea to group the "Dirac processed" Dirac outputs to drivers that have different distances to the listening position in the Mixer tab... But I could be completely off in my understanding.

Maybe try a simpler setup (No rear fill) first to get accustomed to it?

I had been giving that some thought as well.......... I wonder what would be simpler to tune manually, both rear fill and subwoofer(s) have their own set of issues when trying to integrate them with everything else. In some ways for me rear fill has been easier though.

Of course, I can't do a whole lot currently, my UMIK-1 is currently MIA. No tracking updates in about 48 hours on a delivery path that would usually have gotten to me within 4 based on it's last known location.
