The Short answer is MiniDSP has no idea when 2.0 upgrade for Dirac will be released - a very frustrating fact - since we know that 2.0 has been released in some other AV receivers etc AND they continue to release other products instead of efforting the support of existing customers....

Dear both

Unfortunately, it's not that" we have no idea when the upgrade for Dirac will be released", It's simply that it has been our policy for quite a while now to never advertise something until it's ready for prime time.. The industry is rife with announcements, yet it's taking quite some time for reality.. :-( I know that everybody would love us to bring good news, unfortunately it's not going to help if it's not happening.. :-(

Products like Arcam/NAD are unfortunately quite a lot different in that they are not as flexible when it comes to the DSP structure inside (i.e. 7.1/11.2 fixed config). With our many platforms (e.g DDRC-88A can be a 7.1/5.1/2ch multizone), it's not as trivial as it seems I'm afraid.

We've stated already that we're working actively on Dirac 2.0.. We can't say which legacy platform will have support for it I'm afraid.
Thanks for your patience.

I think it’s unlikley that there will be a Dirac 2.0 upgrade for MiniDSPs.

It has taken sooo long to date that there seems to be serious issues with it.

I’d suggest that there may be new products built, ground up, with 2.0 included, but, if it hasn’t happened yet, then there’s little hope for an across the board ‘upgrade’ scheme for older Minis.

A pity. But technology only gets more complex so it shouldn’t really be a surprise.

Why do you think you need 2.0 ? Have you compared it to the current one?
Mostly it is change in the application. From what officiall press says, algorithm is mostly unchanged, besides
"improved stereo reproduction".

Because I have a great stereo system which was markedly improved by Dirac.

So, now that there’s a further improvement, I’d like that too.

I’m happy to pay for the addition of course, but it’s been so long now that I doubt it’s coming.

And although this particular post was about support for the NanoAVR, the 2.0 upgrade is supposedly for all, or it seems, most, of the DL products therefore I commented here.

Sure, but you have to be prepared, that you will hear not difference, but also
there maybe some difference from measurement to measurement with current version,
because what official statement says, dirac improved accuracy of timing calculation...
I am very courious how it can be improved, I would like to read opinion from someone who really compared both,
with multiple measurements in the same condidtions.
DevTeam said they are working on it, so we have to be patient.

If Dirac say the timing can be improved I’m all for that. And they claim ‘improved stereo reproduction’ too, as you say.

I doubt they’d make that statement if it were not accurate.

So I’m looking forward to either buying the upgrade, if it arrives, or buying say, a new, version 2, DDRC 24 with it already included. Whichever arrives first.

@Paul7777

There aren't any "serious issues"... There is already a DDRC-24/22D user manual out there for Dirac 2.0 and beta testers using it. Would be hard to make a manual if nothing was working.. ;-)

Once again, we appreciate your patience... Dirac live is a "tid" bit more than a software unfortunately. A big part is licensing and the way it talks to Dirac servers, it need to be configured on their side. Basically we're waiting... :-)

My apologies if I have ruffled anything gentlemen. That was not my intention.

I absolutely love everything that my DDRC 24 does, and I’ve recommended it on many forums.

I had assumed any delay would be on Diracs part.

They are a business selling new stuff, so upgrading already sold stuff is not a priority.

I’ll happily buy it once it’s available, I’m simply not holding my breath.

Thank you for the reply too.

No need to apologise at all, you didn't upset anybody... We just wanted to set the record straight so there isn't much confusion .. :-) In these day and age, rumors can easily spread ... ;-) It's important for us to set the record straight on some specific topics we take at heart and that is:
- there isn't any major Dirac Issues.
- We don't just care about selling new stuff

Surely, it takes time to get the kinks figured out and it's not as smooth as PR make it seem.. :-)
Anyway, stay tuned, we'll hopefully see the end of the tunnel one day...

Hi DevTeam,

is there only the DDRC24 for the first test where you are waiting for Dirac or will there be a DDRC88BM test too? In AVS Forum there would be many DDRC88 testers if you want some for Beta :) Or is there a technical issue why Dirac 2.0 will be more difficult to implement to DDRC88?

I can only speak for me but i would pay for the Dirac 2.0 upgrade on my DDRC88 when it's a fair price.

Thanks.
Regards,
Ben
