Hi Folks, I am looking at purchasing a miniDSP DDRC-24 that comes with the Dirac Live capabilities and was wondering if any one could give me recommendations on how I should have it hooked up to my studio monitors? This is how it is currently hooked up:

PC -> USB -> Behringer UMC204HD Audio Interface -> XLR Ouput -> Studio Monitors

The UMC204HD also has XLR inputs that I am currently using with my music instruments (Guitar).

My initial plan was to have the MiniDSP sit between the Audio interface and the PC but then I realized if that was the case, the room correction software would only 'correct' music output coming from the PC and not from my guitar that was plugged into the XLR in of the UMC204HD.

Seeing that the DDRC-24 does not have any XLR inputs, does any one have suggestions as to how I can have it setup so that the guitar input going into the speakers would also be 'corrected'?

Hi @Rivers,
you should put a miniDSP unit between the UMC204HD and the speakers, so as to apply correction to any sound that you hear. DDRC-24 only has unbalanced I/O, so you'll need to use unbalanced inputs on your monitors (if present) and unbalanced outputs available on the Behringer.

Note that Dirac room correction will introduce a latency of 26 ms, thus turning live guitar playing into a nightm quite delayed experience :)

Thanks Wanderer. 26ms sounds like a really long time. :(

Would it be OK to put the Minidsp in between the Behringer Audio Interface and my PC then?

Yes, you can either do that or use IIR filters in Parametric EQ + Crossover sections for room correction while live playing - these filters don't introduce any delay. Just disable Dirac on one of four presets and configure your own filter set (using Room EQ Wizard for example), then switch to this preset whenever you need to monitor sound in real time.

Some very good advise already from @Wanderer. Please note that the 26mS is for 96kHz versions of Dirac Live (e.g. SHD/DDRC-22 series). The 48kHz versions (e.g..DDRC-24/DDRC-88/nanoAVR DL) runs at 13ms

I am awaiting delivery of a 2x4HD that has been upgraded with the DIRAC option. Would that be running at 48kHz or 96kHz?

Thanks!

@Rivers

A 2x4HD that runs Dirac live becomes a DDRC_24. As per datasheet, sample rate then turns to 48kHz.
