Hello all,

I may have made a poorly thought out decision, but am looking for your input as I've had trouble finding what I'm looking for in the forum.

I have a 2x4HD that I used to manage a pair of subs in my HT system, and then later used it on a 2.1 system for my computer. I've brought a third sub back into the HT mix and was hoping to use Dirac Live to help integrate the three subs into my 5.4.3 system, letting Audessey handle the other stuff.

Now comes the rash part: I've already purchased the DL upgrade for the 2x4HD to turn it into the DDRC-24, and am wondering if this was as brilliant an idea as I thought it was. I'm worried because I see numerous posts relating it to 2.1, and the 88 now having some multi sub abilities, but can't seem to locate much in the way of saying the 24 will do multiples.

Will the DDRC-24 work well getting the 3 subs to mesh together or was it really intended to just do the 2.1 setup? If I have to, I may purchase another 2x4hd for Christmas and relegate the newly upgraded 24 to the computer room again. Does anyone have any experience trying to do this or did I goof?

Thanks for you help.

Also, since I forgot to put it:
AVR is a Denon 6200W with 2 subwoofer outs, MultEQ XT32,
Subs are two SVS SB13 sealed units, each sitting under the front right and left Ultra bookshelfs, one older SVS PB12 Ultra ported unit at the back corner.

In the event that the 24 wont handle all three as subs, do you think using one sub out from the receiver for the front and the other sub out form the receiver for the rear while telling the 24 the two sealed units are speakers and the ported unit is a sub and just giving it a seriously rolled off target curve would do the trick?

That seems a bit complex, I'm not sure but...
In theory you could put 4 subs on the ddrc, and ask dirac to then correct them as 2 pairs, or 2+1 in your case.
If the 13s are close maybe they need a very similar correction (depending of the xo), so you could do 2x13 on L, and the 12 ported on R.
So not optimized at all, and you will still have to integrate them to your main channels.
At the end a 2x4 would probably be more than enough, tuned by hand with REW, especially mixing sealed and ported.

Refering to the app note www.minidsp.com/applications/home-theate...tuning-multiple-subs, Dirac Live would implement the "Global EQ" that comes at the end. It's kinda overkill for that really.

Grosso, John,

Thank you for your inputs. Kinda seeming like I could have stuck with the original 2x4HD. I was happy with what I got it to do with my 2.1 setup in the office, so maybe the 24 will go there and another 2x4HD will go back into the main HT since my BFDpro wont handle 3 subs well. For the time being, once the upgrade comes I guess I will have to figure out whether or not to install/run it or just use the old 2x4HD as it was meant to be and let Audessey do it's thing for the global EQ since it will handle all of the channels.

Attached is a scale image of the room in the current configuration, minus the location of the AVR, it's not quite in that corner. The opening to the left is the dining room, to the right is a 10ft window, to the back/bottom is the opening to the houses main entryway.
