So the plan is to use this in a car and in the manual it says to keep a 1 meter radius from the center of the listening position for the mic. . 18inches from center of a head in a car is hitting the window on one side.

Im curious as to what mic positions would someone recommend for this application.

also do mic positions have to symmetrical for both left and right sides of the head Like 6 inches from the head on the left and 6 inches on the right or does it matter at all?

I have no experience with using Dirac in a car but the general idea is just to spread the mic measurement positions out. I don't think it's required that they be symmetrical. You may need to experiment a bit...

As correctly suggested by John, the spread suggestion in the manual is just a "suggestion". If you have a tighter space, just make your measurement around a tighter spot = tighter sweet spot.
