Hello all,

This is the chicken and the egg situation. What works or won't work with what.
My audio system is.

CAPS (Lagoon V3)

www.computeraudiophile.com/content/495-c...ver-c-p-s-v3-lagoon/

The included hardware is as per my Lagoon build

My Operating System is - WS2012 R2 Essentials OS with Audiophile Optimizer v2.00 in Ultimate Core mode - 128g SS HD + Sotm USB exp card) + Synology NAS DS411 Slim - JRiver 18 - Elijah Quad Braid Mk4 USB Cable into JLTi Oppo 105D (Level 4 Upgrade) into SGR CX4F Active Speakers.

The SSD only holds the OS and JRiver. I run Jriver out via ASIO Driver into the Oppo105D DAC. Vol is disabled in Jriver as I use the Oppo 105D as PreAmp and for Vol control.

I would like to install "Dirac Live" into the CAPS. My knowledge of processing power is limited re motherboards and Ram etc so........

Q1) Does my CAPS have the hardware grunt to effectively run 'Dirac Live'
Q2) Is Jriver compatible with Dirac Live with a minimum of fuss?

Thanks for any advice and /or suggestions.

miniDSP sidesteps this issue by doing the processing in DSP hardware.

Hi John,

I understand that but it also adds another link in the audio chain which I am trying to avoid.

The Dirac website doesn't have a forum to discuss my questions so I thought this might be the next best thing.

I am after someone with experience and knowledge in the fields of Dirac Live, CAPS, JRiver and Audiophile Optimizer :P :P :P

It's like finding the home handyman who is a builder, plumber, electrician and bricklayer all in one.

The way I see it is I have a couple of options.

1. Try Dirac live software within the CAPS PC and if it works run it out via my current Sotm USB card into my Oppo105 USB B slot.

No extra links in the chain this way. Dirac Live Trial version then $500 for the product

2. Buy a Minidsp USB Streamer (for USB out of the CAPS) and a Minidsp Dirac Live 22D and feed that into the Oppo via a digital connection. $850 for the hardware.

Two extra links in the chain but obviously some purpose designed gear for the job.

The money isn't the issue as such it is more about the sound quality.

My concern with Option 2 is the extra links in the chain degrade to quality of the sound coming from CAPS to Oppo. If someone with experience tells me there won't be any Degrading of sound in this format and why, then I can start to work on which option to take.

If someone can tell me 'Yep the Dirac Live software running in my CAPS won't be an issue' - then Option 1 might be the go.

Don't know where you find such a person (either type!). But you have the machine so you could run the trial yourself? ;) I'm not sure how you can do a calibration if Audiophile Optimizer removes the desktop (as it says on their web page).

I can just revert AO from Core mode to GUI mode and run the the Dirac Live Trial. That looks the way to go.

@ Cazzesman

Sounds like maybe a general question more dedicated to end users running Dirac on their PC rather than a DSP. Correct?
Maybe try computer audiophile forum. There are some similar setup maybe.. Just a thought.
