Every time that I change inputs using either the Windows desktop application or IR remote, the phase of channel 1 and 2 inverts. These are the same channels associated with Dirac 1. Channels 3 and 4 are on Dirac 2.

Isolation:
  • It doesn't matter if I have all outputs set to inverted or not.
  • Ch3, ch4 don't change phase when changing inputs.
  • It doesn't matter if I use the desktop application or IR.
  • Occurs still after restoring all settings to setting Dirac Live to OFF.
  • Togging on/off of the invert button on the Windows desktop application fixes it until the next input switch is made.
  • The GUI and config xml do not show that the ch1 phase/polarity has changed.
  • Once the phase has flipped to 'inverted', it remains that way until togged in the desktop app.

Anyone else seeing this one yet? My workaround has been to just connect my ch1/ch2 speaker output from the amp with reversed polarity.

EDIT: It might be that Dirac flipped the phase during calibration and it may persist even when Dirac is off. I'll need to check.

That's very peculiar...! Which input specifically is producing the inverted phase?

The ch1 and ch2 polarity get flipped when switching between Toslink or USB and stays that way until it gets toggled again in the tool. I've not tried analog though.

@ Umlautica

Ok, this is odd indeed. Let's try to summarize here as even after reading 3 times, I'm not sure I understand which steps to follow as we're getting confused between inputs/outputs/Dirac..etc. hehe .:-)

Would you mind to maybe email our tech support team some step by step (e.g. with screenshot of how to reproduce and they'll tech it from there). You can do so by emailing them to our tech support portal: support.minidsp.com

Sounds good? Thanks for the report.

I've just emailed support, but here are the steps for anyone else that might be as confused with this problem as I am. Steps 2-4 are probably optional.

1) Reset DDRC-24 settings to default
Dirac 1: 0db, 0db, off, off
Dirac 2: off, off, 0db, 0db
Dirac Input: USB
Dirac Live OFF
Config 1
2) Set all outputs to -14db
3) Link channels 1/4, set 80Hz LR 24db/oct low pass
4) Link channels 2/3, set 80Hz LR 24db/oct high pass
5) Play music and using ear, ensure that all speakers are in phase
6) Change Dirac Inputs to TOSLINK
7) Change Dirac Inputs to USB
8) Observe that Output1 and Output2 are now 180 degrees out of phase with respect to Output3, Output4.
9) In the outputs tab, _enable_ "Invert" for Output1 and Output2 - observe no change
10) In the outputs tab, _disable_ "Invert" for Output1 and Output2 - observe all four channels are in correct phase again.
11) Changing input ->TOSLINK->USB again results in Output1 and Output2 being out of phase with respect to Output3, Output4 again. (Steps 6-10)

Thanks @ Umlautica for the very clear steps.
We'll send them to the engineers to see if they can figure out the issue. Thanks for your patience.

@ Umlautica

Thanks a ton again for your patience. Just a short email for the community to let you know that thanks to the help (and patience) of Steven we were indeed able to witness the bug here. A new DSP binary packaged inside a new plugin is now available for download inside the user downloads. Have a look at it and do let us know if any issues.
