I'm having trouble mapping any IR command to Config 2. All the other three plus volume, mute and live haven't been a problem and have learnt first time everytime, but I can't get number 2 to accept anything. I've tried numerous commands from numerous remotes but they all fail.

Very odd indeed. I wonder what could be the case. Is Config2 a special key on your remote? (i.e. some remotes are sending strings of commands sometimes, i.e. combinations). Is config 2 loaded with a Dirac Live configuration at the moment?

I am using a Harmony One with Smart Control, the configs are all assigned a specific key each. There is no config loaded on 2 at the moment.

Ok I see.
- Step 1: make sure that the harmony is actually sending/flashing some IR for that specific command (since you have a programmable remote)
- Step2: make sure you load/configure something on slot 2. Else maybe the code is preventing you to go into what is an unconfigured slot?

Step 1: I'm convinced it's not a remote problem as I've also tried mapping other dedicated remotes with the same result.
Step 2: I'll give this a go and get back to you.

I forgot to add that the level of the popping reduces if I repeat pressing the remote button a few times (but it never stops completely). Leaving it for a few minutes and the level is back again to it's usual level.

Level of popping? You mean pops between config? A bit more info would help here on the hardware, configuration and software running. Dirac Series is quite vague knowing we have more than 5 and about to be 6 products.. Thanks for the details.

I've swapped out the receiver I was using for a processor I have and the popping has stopped, so I'm not going to worry about this any more at this time. I've not had the chance to look into the remote issue yet so I'll update this thread once I've had the chance to.
