Surround Speakers Popping 6 years 11 months ago #26149

Whenever I change Sky or Tv channels I'm getting a loud pop from both surround speakers (5.1 setup). If I bypass the 88 and run the surrounds direct from the AV receiver the popping stops. Anyone got any ideas how I can stop this.

Very odd indeed. We haven't heard of such configuration. I wonder if the TV is somehow creating an overdrive inside the DSP structure. (E.g. could be high frequenccy) Pop can be heard if basically you're driving your DSP above 0dBFS.

Maybe start a tech support ticket (Support - > Contact us) with our team so we can help. We'll need your Dirac projects so we can see if there isn't a major boost/overdrive in the structure that could justify this issue.

I had my remote set to use the volume and mute control from my Yamaha receiver, but I've discovered that remapping it to use the 88's reduces the popping considerably. I think before I start a support ticket I'm going to reset the unit to default and see if that sorts things out.

If reducing the level at the 88A changes the issue, it's most likely down to overdriving one channel inside the DSP.
Check your gain structure as follow:
- Check your output specs from your AVR. Sometimes some AVR (Especially for the SUB) could be outputting some levels that could be too high for the RCA/balanced input. Check out the user manual of the DDRC-88A for more info on max levels.
- Use a set AVR level, change the master volume inside the DDRC-88A, catchup the potential lost gain at the amplifiers if any.

Keep us updated.
