1: Can I use the same upgrade authorization on a 2nd 88A, that I got for my first 88A?

2: If I have to wait...can I unplug and install the unit until the authorization arrives (I don't want to have to download, and go through the whole process again because I removed the power while waiting)?

Hi! I purchased the BM update and was starting the process by updating the firmware as specified in the instructions. Somehow while using the bootloader mode an erro r occurred and I can no longer connect to the DDRC 88A with the utility. Until that point I had been able to connect to the DDRC 88A consistently. I accidentally hit verify or verify program and sinceI have not been able to connect to the DDRC 88A with the utility. There is a short blip where the bootloader menu usually comes up,but then immediately goes away. Now when I try to connect to the DDRC 88A with the utility I get "cannot connect and then 3 retrys to no avail. I have rebooted my computer the DDRC 88a without any improvement. Still can't connect. Thanks for any help.
PS: I also can't seem to download the latest version(1.6) of the utility? It almost completes the upgrade and then say "cannot complete".

I think you will need to open a support ticket on that one -> minidsp.desk.com
I'd suggest being clearer in the ticket about exactly where you got up to - refer to the documents and include step number and/or page number.

I had a windows problem today, and had to do a system restore to a point before the 88M was updated. Now i cannot connect with the software. Do I reinstall the 88A software? If so what do I do after that to get the crossover part up again?

You'll need to reinstall the DDRC-88BM plugin and do the step to update your DLCT installation.

Does this mean opening it up again to hold the button down and get it into boot loader mode too? If not at what point do i need to update from?

No you won't need to do that, that is the onboard firmware, it will not have been affected.

Now I can get into the crossover, but not the Dirac part. :(

Sorry to be a pain.

No worries. In the extra manual in the DDRC-88BM download "Read this first etc" there is a step where you have to modify your DLCT install. On the Mac you double click on a file, on Windows it's something along those lines (I haven't done it on Windows). It copies a new version of a library into your DLCT install.

In Windows you double click on the .bat file and then instructions have you do the hold the button part down. I did the double click, but did not open the unit up again to hold the button down. It still won't connect with the Dirac part. :(

You shouldn't have to put it into boot loader mode, it's just the Windows install that was affected. You did restart DLCT? If so, I don't know what else to suggest, maybe support ticket time :(

Thanks for the help John, I will try it again tomorrow...you know sometimes things are clearer when you leave them for a while (might find something simple I left out) ;).

@ Ellisr63,

If you're using a restore point in your OS (before the BM when everything was working), we're guessing that the reason why you're not able to connect to via the Dirac live unit is because your PC/MAC doesn't ahve the correct DLL (batch/script file as explained by John). Here is a little summary of the complexity behind the scenes:

- DDRC-88A was running for many months. No problem
- For DDRC-88BM to exist, we had to build a new DSP structure (i.e. new DIrac live filter ). For this to work (and for Dirac Live to know that how to deal with that new DSP structure), we had to create a new "DLL" (a bridge working between the USB layer and Dirac Software).
- Dirac Team was too busy to be able to help and we just didn't want to wait another 3months.. :-) So we just issued the trick of the "batch" file that overwrites the old DLL.

SHORT ANSWER: When you have a unit that was upgraded to the latest 88BM firmware. You must make sure that you run the batch file to ugprade your Dirac live install as per "DO THIS FIRST" under the 88BM step E.

MAkes sense?

Yesterday after the restore i decided to wipe the HHD, and reinstall. What do I need to do now to get it back up and running? Do i install the 88A software again, and then do the firmware upgrade again too?
