Hello

I´ve been having some thoughts about upgrading the power supply, my Swedish dealer used to sell linear hifi power supplies but he ran of stock and don´t know we he will getting them back in stock. So I´ve been looking arround over the internet for other power supplies. Found a company named TeraDak which seems to make some fine power supplies. Before buying something like that I have some questions that has to straithened out,

would this be OK to do with respect to the warranty?

If it is OK then I would probably buy one from TeraDak

The question is the power consumption of the DDRC-88A. The original supplies 12VDC 3.34A, but since the original internal fuse was only at 1A i guess the unit doesnt consume much more than that? Maybe a short moment when powering up the unit?

Would I be fine with a linear power supply capable of delivering 2A?

Or should I go with one of these: (capable of 6.25A)

I have a TeraDak linear power supply that I'm not using. Honestly I don't see any advantage to them. Using one will not void your warranty. I'll have to see what model I have but I believe mine is the 2A version and it works well.

Thx for reply sly!

Ok so you hear no difference at all when using the TeraDak? The original switched power supply maybe is not that bad then

It would be nice to be able to get demo before buying but maybe I´ll try one anyway since it´s not that expensive upgrade. The 2A version is half the price vs the 6A so if the 2A is enough that would be nice.

Maybe DEV-Team can confirm this?

Probably something miniDSP should put in the specs, but if the fuse is 1A you don't need a 6A power supply.....!

Dear All

While the idle current of the 12V for the DDRC-88A is indeed lower than 1A, the "inrush" current is actually higher. That's where you need more than 1A power supply (else it won't boot as some of these powersupply might not have enough).

2A should be plenty fine.

Also for the DDRC-22D ?

I thought 'inrush' is only when you switch on the device where the transformer needs to handle bigger amperes as for the smoothing capacitor.
Not for the linear circuit after it ...
