Hello,

I was wandering about the choice of a FIR solution.
After the release of the 2x4HD, is still Dirac DDRC-22D the best one.

I understood that the Dirac seems to be easier with its integrated software but regarding its performances is it much better (the price is very higher).

Thank you!

I don't believe the 2x4 does FIR filtering. Either the openDRC or the Dirac would be the choice for FIR.

I think that he's refering to the new 2x4HD which indeed does have FIR (on outputs though).

@ CDESL,

It all depends what you want to do with FIR.. :-) Crossover or Complete room correction (need larger banks).
Dirac isn't just using FIR, it's using a much more complex way (and measurement techniques) to achieve room correction. It's therefore very hard to compare these 2 I'm afraid (Pure FIR bank vs Dirac). :-(

Maybe get Dirac Live free trial to hear it?
Or wait for 2x4DL which will run Dirac.. :-) Few months to go though for that upgrade.

The 2x4 DL uses the same hardware platform as the 2x4 HD, so no, it won't have digital output.

HTH :)

If you want to "roll your own" FIR filters for room correction, perhaps the OpenDRC-22D is worth a look. (More an "apples to apples" comparison than the 2x4 HD.)

In theory you can accomplish the same results with the OpenDRC. However it will be quite a learning curve I think.

I've been off the site for awhile and had missed that. Wow! That's just what I've been looking for. Does it use the exact same SHARC board that the openDRC uses? Could it load openDRC plugins? That may be just what I've been looking for for a new car stereo build.

No, a whole new board, will only run its own plugin - www.minidsp.com/products/plugins/2x4-hd-plugins

(That page does say plugins which indicates an intention for future different plugins, but at present there is only the one.)
