The Dirac Live light on my DDRC – 88A has stopped working. The config selection lights still work, but seem to make no difference to the sound anymore. I have tried hard resets and deleting and reinstalling the configurations with no joy. I have also re-learnt the IR codes again which also hasn't helped. Can anyone suggest what else I can try.

@ Grumpy@72

Sorry for missing your forum post! That seems very odd indeed. We're not sure of what could be the cause here.
Can you please double confirm that you're currently running the latest DSP firmware on this unit? You can easily confirm looking at the userdownloads section.

You don't happen to have an Apple TV remote in your setup. Do you?

I can confirm it's on the latest firmware. I have a few Apple remotes one of which should be from an Apple TV (old model). But I'm not sure how easy finding them will be. I'll have a go, but the codes I mapped to it were working without any problems.

With that said, perhaps I can offer the advice/opinion that the remote seems to be a secondary here. You can select the different configs/filter sets and enable/disable Dirac Live from within DLCT's Export screen to confirm proper operation (or not). That would be the first thing to do I think.

Well, I managed to find a couple of Apple remotes. I followed the advice I saw on another thread here, to unlearn the codes on the unit so the Apple remote would work by default. At first nothing I did with the remote worked, on trying again a little later the + and - started to control the volume. I began to think I was at last getting somewhere. Unfortunately I wasn't as while I was adjusting the volume, it rapidly increased to full and would not respond to the remote to bring it down again. I had to pause the programme being watched to stop the volume.
I tried operating the remote from various locations, including directly in front of it and eventually discovered that the only place it seems to work at least some of the time was when it was used at a 90 degree angle to the front of the unit, approximately a meter to the left and in line with the front panel. At this position, at least for some of the time, the volume worked and the left right and play/pause all worked the Config indicators. The Menu button did nothing and nothing worked the "Live" indicator.
I'll try what the above post suggests but I can't believe the grief this thing is giving me and I'm getting completely p****d of with it.

I've tried as John suggested and turning on the filters in DLCT does activate the Live indicator. So thanks very much for that John. I'm frustrated that I didn't think of doing, when it's mentioned, something which is such an obvious place to start.

I don't know if this has any bearing on things but every time I load a filter I get a message box telling me

"Playback device DDRC-88 channel mismatch, loaded project has too many channels"

The filter continues to load and everything looks OK (for a 5.1 setup which is what the filter was compiled as). Has this anything to do with things?

Now the problem seems to have been narrowed down to a remote problem. So far I've mapped controls to a Sony HT-CT100 which was working without problem and the Apple remote without any mapping the results of which I've already covered above. It seems clear to me that the fault lies with the IR sensor on the unit, or something else in it stopping the signal to get through.

Is the IR receiver sticking through the hole? I'm just wondering if it's possible that the VOL-FP board got dislodged. It seems unlikely but can't hurt to check. Otherwise maybe it is just a flaky IR receiver? It sounds like it might be worth swapping out the VOL-FP to see. I guess you would need to open a support ticket to proceed.

On this one:

"Playback device DDRC-88 channel mismatch, loaded project has too many channels"

I don't recall seeing that, unless that's the error message you get when you try and load a filter set into a slot that already has filters in it. You need to delete the filters from a slot (drag to the "trashcan") before loading a new set.

(Sorry if that's not it at all, just taking a guess from memory.)

I've both deleted ( drag and drop ) and reset all from the Config utility and I still get the message every time I load a configuration
I definitely think there is a problem on the IR and if this message I'm getting is also a fault I'm starting to loose what little bit of faith I have left with this product.

The two aren't connected. It's only hardware and software (what could possibly go wrong? ;) ) - open a support ticket carefully describing the issue(s) and I'm sure miniDSP will help.

I've checked and there is only a hole where the IR sensor be, no wonder I'm having problems. As I've only just got it I'm going to talk with the place I got it from and arrange a replacement or refund, not sure which yet. Thanks for the help.

That's pretty weird. You should be able to see the IR receiver in the hole. Sounds like something went wrong in assembly :(

@ Grumpy@72

It sounds like 2 unrelated issues here which I'm sure that our team would be more than happy to help solve. Did you create a tech support ticket with our team already? (Support menu - > Contact Us) which will open a tab for tech support ticket portal.

- IR: It's always tested on any models as part of the QC steps for very odd if the IR is gone.. Would certainly want to keep track of what's going on. Pics and more details in the tech support ticket would help. We can easily send a new VOL-FP board.
- Message: It's simply because you're loading a 5ch config to an 8ch device. Nothing to be worried off. Units work fine. Right?
Send us a link of your project if you have some other issues.

The company I got this from have replace the unit with a new one. I decided to go for a replacement rather than a refund solely because of their help and efforts. I cannot fault their excellent service. So far I've not had the chance to set it up completely, but I've programmed the IR codes which this time went without a hitch and each individual button was learnt in a couple of seconds, so far a completely different experience compared to before.

Not sure if I can mention the dealer so please edit this if I shouldn't do. But I think they deserve some sort of recommendation. They are "Homesound" in Edinburgh, Scotland. I bought from their web site as I'm not local to them. I've bought from them in the past and their service then was just as good as now.
