Hi all, I'm a new user and would appreciate some advice. As well as the 88 I have a Yamaha AV with YPAO, which I use as a processor with a Parasound amp and a Paradigm sub with the Perfect Bass Kit. I will over time be trying different combinations to see what works and what doesn't, but would be grateful if someone could recommend the best order to run things to get started with.

Hi there, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "order", but you won't want to use YPAO at the same time as Dirac. (If that helps - ?)

Thank's for the quick reply. That's what I meant, what order to run the different calibrations in as I've read conflicting advice on the AVS thread. And it seemed as if using both the 88's and the Yam's would be counter productive.

You absolutely don't want to combine Dirac Live with any other room correction. I am an active participant on the AVS 88A thread, and I don't recall any discussion of combining Dirac Live with other room correction products. If there is a confusing post over there, share a link with us and we can try to clear up any confusion.

I'll have another look to see if I can find it. As far as I can remember it was in reply to another post asking similar to me. The reply suggested running YPAO once to set the speaker distances.

I'm wondering if that might have been in the context of using the DDRC in a "hybrid" Atmos system, such as in this post - www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps...42.html#post37556250

(Took me a few seconds to find it with google)....

As John says, if you have more than a 7.1 system, e.g. a Dolby Atmos configuration, and you don't want to equalize the additional speakers, you still need to set levels and distances. One technique is to run the calibration system in the AVR (Audyssey or YPAO) to calculate the distances and trims for the overhead speakers. However, immediately after doing this, the AVR calibration is turned off, and the distances and trims for the channels being calibrated by the 88A are zeroed out (since Dirac has already set those values).

Well I've had another look and can't find it. I have been reading quite a bit in regards to using the 88 and I'm probably wrong about where I read it, but I'm sure I saw it somewhere. I think the best way is to stick to get advice or help from here or the AVS thread from people who know what their doing.
