I've been very happy with my DDRC-22D but in the interests of "tweaking" recently tried an external reclocker between it and my DAC. (W4S Remedy). The result was better focus/cleaner definition in the bass/mid-bass resulting in more "body" to the music. Just to make sure I wasn't imagining it, I had a couple of other people audition it and they picked the difference and which one was better. So all is good B)

There is one issue though.....the reclocker has 2 inputs - optical & coax, but the optical connection from the MiniDSP unit doesn't work, coax is fine. With optical the reclocker light just flickers instead of being solidly on and of course there is no sound. This is weird because optical works fine to my DAC and I have tested the reclocker with optical direct from my streamer and it also works fine.

Any thoughts on what might be happening here?

I have been considering trying a re-clocker between my DDRC-22D and DS DAC.

What DAC are you using?

Are you certain that the Toslink connector "snapped" into the connector socket?

I tried it with my Primare DAC 30 and my Auralic Vega.

Yes, as I said the optical works fine from the MiniDSP to other devices and into the Remedy from other devices - just not with each other. I also tried 2 different brand optical cables.

@ wanta911

Indeed very odd. So I understand correctly:
a) You connect DDRC-22D to optical and it works fine. Correct?
b) You connect DDRC-22D -> Reclocker - > DAC and it's not working fine.
I'm wondering if it's an issue with the clocking option on that optical. i.e. which is master/slave.

At it least it seems to be the case here. Maybe your reclocker has some settings to tweak?

Yes very strange, just to clarify:

Aries >> DDCRC-22D >> optical to Reclocker >> DAC - doesn't work
Aries >> DDCRC-22D >> coax to Reclocker >> DAC - works
Aries >> optical to Reclocker >> DAC - works (DDRC-22D out of the loop)

Not too big a deal as coax works fine but I am curious to know why it might be? I might send a link to this thread to W4S to see if they have any theories.

Thanks for the input :)
