Great news. I generally had my mind set on never using unbalanced gear again - but with 2x4DL in balanced version on the far horizon I am willing to change my mind :P.

You guys are like what apple used to be 5 years ago. Constantly improving and expanding your product line with devices that could never be dreamed of a few years ago. I'm happy to be your customer and I recommend your products to friends often. I'm pretty much sure we'll be getting a few boards and mics all at once soon.

Cheers!

BTW John @ REW is also great. The recent update simplifying my measurement setup by excluding the need for a second analog mic to measure delays - I couldn't be happier.

Hi all
I was reading the following on the specs of the MiniDSP 2x4 HD:

Digital I/O: USB audio I/O, Toslink input (44.1~192kHz), I2S I/O (not enabled yet)

I see that i2S is not enabled yet, but when it will be enabled, which kind of connector should I use?

Will I be able - for example - to connect my raspberry using this
support.hifiberry.com/hc/en-us/articles/...ct-external-I2S-DACs

Which type of cable should I build?

Thanks!
franz

@ Franz,

Quite unrelated to this thread here talking about the 2x4DL. Please maybe use another thread so we don't pollute? Thanks.

As for the quick update on the 2x4DL, the good news is that we're already at beta testing stages.. :-)

Two questions:

Will the Dirac functionality be sold as plug in for 2x4hd users?

2x4hd is quite limited in regards to the number of available FIR taps when correcting lower frequencies. I use it on a JBL M2 clone, and I have to skip most of the LF EQ.
Will DL be equally limited in the lower frequencies due to the limitations in processing power?

devteam answered on the previous page that there will be an upgrade available.

I'm curious as to why you "skip" the LF EQ instead of using IIRs?

IIR EQ on lf ofcourse but ideally they are corrected entirely in fir.
Would the Dirac dl be able to work its magic on the whole spectrum, or would heavy EQ as in the m2 LF be too much?

Hm. Well, Dirac Live uses a combination of IIR and FIR filters, with what they called "mixed phase filtering." There is a white paper here:

www.dirac.com/s/on_room_correction.pdf

Relevant quote: "Finally, it should be noted that impulse response correction requires a non-causal part, which cannot be modeled well by an IIR model. An IIR filter can however model the causal part of a well-design equalizer filter, which means that one of the most efficient mixed-phase equalizer implementations consists of a combination of IIR and FIR filters."

There is no reason that I have seen to think that Dirac Live won't do "heavy EQ" (although I am not entirely sure what you mean by that).

By the way, the FIR part of the Dirac implementation in the DDRC-24 will probably be substantially longer than suggested by the 2x4 HD taps, as the DDRC-24 runs at 48k. (I say "probably" because details like this are a closely guarded secret, nobody outside of Dirac and its partners really knows....)

Hope that helps :)

I have ordered a 2x4 HD, too. But i will upgrade it to the Dirac Live Version.
When I will do that, there is no difference between the "original" DDRC 24 and the upgraded 2x4 HD?

When will the update appear? Days, Month or years? :)

And is the 2x4 DL as powerful as the DDRC-22A in Room Correction?

@ Orange276

The 2x4HD to DDRC-24 will happen very soon. It's actually already in the user manual and all platforms support it.
We just need to add a page to our website for the 250USD Dirac License upgrade.

2x4DL isn't the same sample rate as DDRC-22A. It's therefor not the same structure. It's a different product (stereo @ high sample rate) vs 2x4 @ 48k. Not easy to compare I'm afraid as even all the IO cards are different.. Different target market even if it has the "Dirac live" word in it. Maybe check the datasheets?

@ Johoo.

- Yes it's sold as an upgrade as explained earlier
- As for the FIR comment, I'm afraid that you really can't compare a straight FIR block to Dirac Live. Without getting into details as we simply can't, you just can't put them together side by side. They have nothing in common technically and physically.. Many of our customers use Dirac DDRC-88A/DDRC-22 for sub tuning down to 10Hz with lots of very accurate results. No problems whatsover to control the bass.. You may want to read the good doc by Dirac as pointed by John to decipher a bit more.. :-)

Yes, I know that there is a different sample rate.
My fear is that the DDRC-24 will not be powerful as the PC Version or the DDRC22. I have tested both and the result was very very good. Free custom target market and the correction result was almost identical.
Maybe the DDRC-24 has less CPU Power and will not get a correction as the DDRC 22? In this case I have to buy the DDRC 22.
I can set a custom target curve with die DDRC-24 (like in the PC Version or DDRC22)?

Thank you for your help!
