Hi

Just received the Nano DL .
Running it with a Pioneer LX89 receiver and the Oppo 93 unit.
I have a 6.1 configuration (No center).
Used The custom option for 7 channels.
Started the test tones:
Left and Right are fine
Subwoofer is Fine
Surround left is Fine

And the it's a mess....

Instead of outputting a test signal for SR and the 2 Back channel there is No sound at all.

The test tones via the Pioneer works so nothing is disconnected.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the kind help

Hi, are you keeping the HDMI alive with a video signal on the input? (And/or: is this repeatable? - I'm just wondering if your source just happened to go to sleep after the first surround channel sweep.)

Hi

Thanks for your reply.
This seems to be the problem , but I'm not sure.
I did "wake" up the Oppo with a 7.1 clip, and after pressing stop and retrying the "output" channel test in the direc software, it did recognize all my channels.
BUT, this was only the case when I choose 7.1. When I chose "Custom", I'm running a 6.1 configuration (No center) it recognized the fronts' the sub' one of the side surrounds and that's it, no output on the other side surround, and no output on back surrounds either.

In fact when I pressed on the Right back surround it output the signal on the on the main left speaker.
So I can go ahead and run the measurements on 7.1 but not on Custom.

2 questions please:

1. Any ideas on how to "fix" the problem I’m having with custom?

2. Is there any obvious problems running the 7.1 option while I'm actually using a 6.1 configuration?

Thank you

I've never run a 6.1 configuration but I am assuming the Pioneer has been set for "no center channel"? In that case, it will mix the incoming center channel signal to the front left and right speakers?

If so, then I think you should run the calibration as 7.1. I wonder if you might notice some oddness at high frequencies in the Dirac measurement (I really don't know, just guessing) in which case you can limit the frequency range of correction on the ("virtual") center channel.

Interesting question :)

As to why it is behaving the way it does when you use Custom configuration, that doesn't sound like the way it should be behaving at all. You might need to raise a support ticket for that.

BTW to keep the nanoAVR awake, I find connecting it to the computer HDMI output easiest. There is probably a way to stop the Oppo (I have 103) from putting its output to sleep but TBH I've never looked for it.

@ Ran,

Odd indeed as we haven't seen/tested such configuration before.
When you say "Started the test tones:". Do you mean clicking on the little PLAY buttons next to each channels?

Can you please clarify if you clicked on the "main" START button on the next page (i.e. next to the sofa/chair). i.e. is only 1/2 of the speakers playing during that case?

Thank you for your reply.

I have an ongoing support ticket with minidsp support, with no results so far. Hoping they will figure this out.

Just to make things clearer:

The problem shows up on the test tone page in the dirac program.
That's after choosing "Custom" and 7 channels instead of 8 (I don’t use a center channel).
The Pioneer is configured to play with no center channel.

Once I go into the test tone page, and click the little play buttons next to each channel:

This is what I get:

1. Channel 1- sound comes out from left speaker.
2. Channel 2- sound comes out of right speaker
3. Channel 3 (the subwoofer box is ticked)- sound comes out from the Subwoofer
4. Channel 4 ** problem**- sound comes out once again from left main channel (similar to channel 1)
5. Channel 5- sound comes out from left surround
6. Channel 6- sound comes out from right surround
7. Channel 7- sound comes out from left back surround

As you can tell I have no sound from right back surround due to the fact that channel 4 did not skip to the next channel.

I have not moved forward from this page. I see no point as there is clearly some problem

There is an exception to the above which happened (out of frustration) 4-5 days ago, I did NOT choose custom BUT rather 7.1 and progressed to full calibration.

This did not go well and in fact I couldn’t tell a difference between with or with out the filters and obviously I have a 6.1 configuration so the whole procedure was not correct. I can't remember if clicked on the "main" STARTbutton, but realy what's the use if I encounter a problem the page before?!

Thanks for your time

I think you will find that 7.1 is the correct configuration to use anyway. If you have 7.1 source material and choose a custom/6.1 channel configuration, the center channel audio will not have Dirac processing done to it at all.

Thanks John for your reply.

I'm not sure that's the case as Mini dsp support are going into alot of trouble to solve this.
