Hello everybody,

I have a problem:

I have installed Dirac, it recognises the mic and the miniDSP.
I have a Audiolab 8200 AP surround processor.

When I push test on channels 1+2 there comes pink noise from the left and right channel. All good...
When I then press test on center, sub or surround channels there comes no sound at all.
My processor even says "silent" in the display when I test these channels (3-8)...

I have updated with the beta software to force 5.1 mode.. But makes no difference...

What to do?

I really hope you can help..

Hello Morten,

Just to clarify, you're using a nanoAVR on this setup? (not exactly clear but guessed)

Before going further, we'd strongly recommend that you actually upgrade both your DSP firmware and your Dirac Live software. There is a new release now available under the user downloads for both the nanoAVR utility and for the Dirac Live tools. Best that you start your tuning with our current set of tools.
To run the latest nanoAVR DL tools, you will need to update the firmware FYI as per the ZIP file.

Btw, if you have any further issues, maybe easiest that you start a tech support ticket with us (minidsp.desk.com). This way we can track your issue and get some HDMI logs of your setup.

Yes, you are right; I have the AVR DL.

I think I have all the lastest software since I installed everything just now...
Firmware 1.17

So still the same problem...

Hello Morten,

Thanks for the feedback. As mentioned on the tech support ticket, we're guessing that these are older firmware/software since we just released the software yesterday.. :-) (sorry forgot to add that to previous post.. :-)

let's use the tech support ticket that you opened as one path of communication. Sounds good?

Hello Morten,

You may have the same problem I had during my NanoAVR DL review.
It is possible that your units are not EDID friendy.
In order to solve the NO SOUND in channel 3-8 during setup do as follow :

Plug in a source with HDMI audio out set on PCM.
Run a movie with 7.1 audio track, this will validate 7.1 audio in the different EDIDs.
Put the movie on pause, EDID is still active

Run Dirac Calibration, it should work.

Hi Dev team,

I know has been some time... I got a baby, which takes away all time from playing this sort of stuff...

Anyway, I now also changed my Surround preamp to a NAD M17.

Uploaded the newest software to the MiniDSP NanoARV DL.

Guess what... Still exactly the same problem...

As soon as I have the MiniDSP in between the BluRay Player and the Preamp it can only recongnise 2.0 sound via HDMI. And that is regards if I choose PCM or bitstream.... So when I in the calibration software want to run the test software it only comes through in the left and right channel.

But as soon as I take the MiniDSP out of the equation, everything is fine... Sound in 5.1 in bitstream or PCM...

I think it is very sad that even after 2 years this problem still exist on multiple devices... And I am not a complete novice as I am the CEO of Dynaudio in Germany, and we distribute NAD as well.

So what is the next step? I really what this to work... Dirac is great.. Hopefully MiniDSP is also great.

Best regards
Morten Nielsen

Hello Morten,

You can try the trick I have describted just before;

You will need you BR player to output PCM only in order to use the Nano anyway.

This is more likely an HDMI trick ...

Check the setting of the HDMI output channel mode. Usually best to just set it to 5.1 (or 7.1).

Jackox as Jacko from hcfr?

For the Audiolab, after several months of exchange with Audiolab and MiniDSP, the bug came from the Audiolab.
But only in the phase of the configuration of Dirac.
In normal use, NanoAvr works perfectly fine in 7.1 with the Audiolab.

The Audiolab needs a signal in 2.0, 5.1 or 7.1.
But if it receives a signal in 20 or 24 bits (like test signal from Dirac), with sound on ONLY one channel of channels 3 to 8, it sees nothing and cuts sound.

And unfortunately, its exactly how works DLCT.

I solve the problem with an other AVR for the configuration of Dirac (only for this step).
Someone else uses a Pc to send test signal for Dirac (instead of using the NanoAVR).

For Morten, player must have audio output in PCM .

Try to force in NanoAVR configurator HDMI in 7.1 instead Auto to see if you have 7.1 sound.

And for Dirac's configuration, use the Jackox's trick.

I hope Nad M17 haven't the same bug as Audiolab.

To check that, use a Pc connected on HDMI on your Nad.
Go to sound pannel, configure sound card in 24 bits/ 48 kHz (as NanoAVR) and check channels with Windows.

On Audiolab, you loose sound (Mute) on channels 3 to 8...
But no loose of sound on 16 bits...

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your quick replies. Very impressive.

I have a Panasonic BDT 500 Blu Ray Player and have set it to PCM on the HDMI out put.
When the mini DSP is not in the signal path everything works fine = 5.1 sound delivered in PCM.

When I then put the mini DSP in the middel, only 2 ch sound arrives at my M17. Even when I choose a soundtrack that I know is 5.1. And that worked very well just before, with out the mini DSP.

Then connecting the mini DSP to a PC with Dirac only makes the test noise appear in channel Left and Right.

I does not change anything if I play a movie in 5.1 PCM out... The M17 still only shows 2ch active... Even though the movie is a DTS Master Audio track and the player has PCM out via HDMI.

Very strange...

I can offer you an E-Mail to the Technical Director of NAD if you would like to talk to him?

Best regards
Morten

What is the HDMI Channel Mode set to? (In the nanoAVR-DL plugin).

Sorry... How do I see that?

And I do not know what DDRC-24 plugin is?
