I have great results with a DDRC-22D sitting between a Sonos Connect and a NAD D3020, so I am wondering how well a DDRC-22A would work inserted between the car's head unit and a 2 channel power amp for the front speakers.

Of course I could go with a non Dirac unit and use one of the regular miniDSP units and build filters using REW

Any thoughts ?

I gather from the Dirac site is that a lot of their licensing is for in-car audio (BMW, Bentley, Rolls Royce). So I'd say it's worth a try! (I'd be curious to know how it goes :) )

I would be curious about this too, especially since as John mentioned, the Dirac group do have a notable presence in car audio. But I have to wonder if their algorithms are tweaked differently for the two environments.

If it's too much hassle to integrate your 22D into your car system for testing, perhaps you could experiment with the trial version of the 2-channel software from the Dirac site, running on a laptop in the car? Of course that assumes no substantial algorithmic differences between their software version and the firmware in the DDRC platform. Maybe devteam can verify this?

Please do keep us posted if you have time.

@ Eurodriver,

Oh interesting idea indeed. You can get BMW series 5 Dirac quality in your car... hehehe.
We don't have experience but do know that some car Audio DIYers have been using the OpenDRC or MiniSHARC inside their cars with success. (just need a 12V to 5VDC converter). The question is more how Dirac will deal with the measurements but I'd guess that it will be the same as within a room.

Keep us updated if you ever do it. Would love to have feedback!
