Has anyone tried connecting a Sonos directly to Dirac MiniDSP using I2S? Is it possible?

Will it reduce jitter and give a sonic benefit?

Simon.

Jitter is already handled by the electronics themselves. It really isn't a factor except that it drives expensive purchases in the high-end market.

If you're worried about the quality of the digital signal coming out of the Sonos, have you considered the original Cullen mods? They are now offered by Wyred4Sound. This mod replaces the Sonos CODEC and clock circuitry. You can either provide your own CONNECT and they will modify it or you can purchase one from them already modified. It only modifies the coax output but works a treat.

I am extremely happy with the DDRC-22D connected to the optical out from the SONO S Connect. The DDRC-22D does sample rate conversion to 24/96, and takes care of the jitter from the SONOS. Optical keeps the electrical noise out

The DDRC-22D then feeds via optical a NAD D3020, the combination sounds very good

Simon,

Using I2S will "most likely" not improve audio quality over SPDIF/Toslink, I think that you may have to remember that electronics such as miniSHARC will require electronic knowledge and won't be as plug&play. (i.e. how are you going to wreck open your sonos without schematics, knowledge of the matching of these I2S lines and hack some flywires to get I2S out from the chipset). Is that your plan? If so, the likelyhood that your hack will be better than using a finished setup (e.g. OpenDRC/DDRC) is indeed very low. The miniSHARC is already doing ASRC for jitter reducement as correctly mentioned by John when you input via SPDIF/Toslink (e.g. DIGI-FP + miniSHARC).
