The other day I pressed the remote volume button and heard a loud pop out of my speakers. Could not reproduce it so figured it was just one of those things. The next day it did it again but, this time. after the loud pop there were continuous softer clicks. I turned of the Oppo disk player but the clicks remained. Turned the amp off/on and the clicks remained. I assumed it was the MiniDSP so I rebooted that last, and the noise stopped. After that, it again appears fine. Anyone know what is going on here?

Tim,

Mmmh odd. Did you make sure that you're not saturating your signal? If you're using the DDRC-22D, make sure that you don't apply the 10dB fix. You'd be too close to the margin if you're Digital in/Digital out and a DSP target curve with a boost. The 10dB attenuation is here to prevent these from happening. We "somehow" allow it for the DDRC-22A, but that should be the extend. If it's misused, we'll soon remove it from the website to prevent confusion.. :-)

Keep us updated and feel free to share your project with us (i.e. using a tech support ticket: minidsp.desk.com)

I did apply the 10dB attenuation fix, at your suggestion, when the volume from my TV's optical output was too low. How do I revert back to default state? Also, how could I "misuse" the fix? I was not listening at a very loud level when this occurred.

Tim,

Ok, I see. Typically, we wouldn't recommend applying the 10dB attenuation refresh on a Digital unit .We may have missed the fact that you had a DDRC-22D. :-)
If you want to revert back, we can email you the old plug-in/configuration tool (i.e. please start a tech support ticket) or if you still have it as a download, you can just "uninstall" the newer DDRC configuration tool, instal the old tool. restore to default, and open Dirac live tools to "reload" your project... A bit of work.

As for "misuse", we didn't imply that it was you.. :-) DDRC-22D are digital input, there are already completely optimized for Digital input being a feed from a CD player sometimes at close to 0dBFS. Making sense? Add some Dirac processing (e.g. boost in your target curve) then that's where the lack of 10dB attenuation will be an issue and you could saturate, no matter if you have some low level in the output. We released this 10dB attenuation removal workaround for "DDRC-22A" end users that wouldn't have the perfect gain structure (i.e. already not using the full 2Vrms.

BTW, all this is a wild guess (i.e. the fact that you're saturating)... Very possible that it's something else? Remotely, we can only provide "guesses" to help our customer knowing there are 1000's of installs and we're just trying to help with some ideas.. :-) Have you looked at your RMS in/out meters on the Dirac Live tool?

Hoping this clarifies.

Thanks, I got it sorted. I uninstalled DDRC and reinstalled using the original file. I then reset the MiniDsp remote settings to factory and ran through matching my remote control. Works fine.
