Hi,
I write because I would like to know if is normal that at low volume on miniDSP (during measurements), one channel is sensibly "hotter" than the other.

My setup:

Oppo 105-->MiniDSP 22A-->Accuphase P-700

When I measure & calibrate, I must set the volume on miniDSP very low (during normal use I attenuate from the Oppo and leave miniDSP at 100%), and I've noticed that the "R" channel is 2.5dB higher than the "L".
Is not a room, speakers or power amplifier problem because if I invert the XLR cables, then the "L" is 2.5dB higher.


So I ask: is normal that at very low levels the 22A is not perfectly matched between L and R channel, or I have a problem in my unit?

Hello Mattia,

Your issue sounds like an old bug from the first rev of the unit. You can easily solve the problem as follow:
1) Disconnect from the Dirac Live tools
2) Connect using the miniDSP plug-in IR programming tool.
3) On the GUI (left) click "Refresh DSP program". That will solve the level difference
4) Disconnect from the DDRC utility start again the Dirac Live Tools.

That should do the trick. If not, please feel free to start a tech support ticket so our team can exchange/see some project file.

Tonight I'll try the "Refresh DSP program" and see if it does the trick :)

I forgot to say that I tought problem was software/firmware related because if i used the miniDSP in a slot with a calibrated curve (both having Dirac turned on and off) I had the level difference, BUT if I choosed an empty slot without any curve, then channel were perfectly matched. So the hardware seemed to be good.

I have a volume issue as well, only with the 22D. With the digital input from my Oppo disk player I get enough volume. However, if I connect the Toslink cable from my Samsung Plasma I cannot make it loud enough. Is that just an issue with the Samsung's output via the digital out?

DSP Refresh solved the problem. Wonderful, thank you!

It drove me crazy for weeks, should have asked before here :)

One last question: is it possible that the bug will represent itself? Or resetting with the Dirac live tools also "updated" it to a bug free version? My Rev. is 1.1.

Wonderful news and glad to hear that it's solved. :-) We're sorry to hear that it caused some issue. The good news is that it shouldn't appear again. It's now bug free. :-)

The attenuation you're talking about is most likely a broadband attenuation (circa 10dB) in place here as per Dirac's DSP implementation to provide some headroom. We however realize that this might be messing up unity gain structure for some of your. Especially if you're in the analog domain (i.e. has +7.5dB on the knob @ max, but still 3dB lower I'd guess).

We've just released a new DDRC utility. Little plug-in for IR control. If you want to remove that 10dB, see your Userdownloads section for the beta. You just need to run that app and "refresh DSP". It will remove the 10dB. Warning that you should insure that you lower your amps first!

Thanks for the fast response! I use the 22D as my sole volume control, the Oppo disk player is set to fixed output. Do I just turn down the volume knob on the 22D before running this utility?

Yes, that's indeed correct. Just turn the level at the DDRC so it's not too loud for your speakers. 10dB isn't massive but still quite loud..

Thank you!!!!. I installed the DDRC-22D a few months back, noticed the drop in levels but thought nothing more of it .... until I completed the construction of my new Class A SET tube power amps. These are much lower output power than my previous solid state gear so I REALLY noticed the short coming having to drive the pre-amp much harder. I was afraid I was going to have to take the DDRC-22D out of the chain. I love what the DDRC-22D is doing in the sub 400 Hz space. totally fixed my room resonances, so much easier and more aesthetically pleasing than bass traps. It has cleaned up the bass and brought the vocals out, all in readiness for the SETs .... a perfect combination now!
