I do not own a miniDSP at this time.

If I order a DDRC-22D (with Dirac) :

Is it possible to also use the DDRC-22D with REW or other open software for experimentation or other reason?

In other words, am I forced to use only the Dirac software on PC for filter creation?

Hi, I don't believe it's possible to load filters onto the DDRC using anything other than the miniDSP version of the Dirac software.

If you want to use open software, use the OpenDRC instead?

Thanks for your answer John, it's indeed correct and I believe that we already had a similar chat over the tech support forum. DDRC implies a licensing scheme that makes us lock the hardware. So I'm afraid that once you have a DDRC, it's hard to run other firmware. It's however easy to upgrade an OpenDRC to a DDRC. :-)

Well, in that case, being experimentally inclined, I decided to decline the DDRC and order the OpenDRC.

I have the Dirac Live Trial, and though it may present more of a point and click solution, however advanced it is, I personally didn't care so much for the rigid simplicity of it.

Thank you for the replies.

Curious: Is the DSP/processing/hardware engine really the same, and only the soft/firmware that locks it up in the Dirac unit?

That's indeed correct. The hardware is essentially the same.
