Ah, I see. Didn't even know that.

So you feel Dirac does something to your treble you don't like? I mean when it comes to room correction, there's no need to correct the highest treble. If your speakers are less than perfect, there might be. So you prefer it with Dirac not touching the highest frequencies?

The living room listen area is a echo disaster area, assymetric, unequal distance to the speakers, tiled floor, not even a rug. The only thing going for the room is that the first order wall reflections are very long on the left side, and pretty diffuse on the right side.

The right speaker is much more problematic than the left speaker. With the full frequency default optimization the soundstage was very good, but the high frequencies lost quite a bit of life and sounded somewhat dull. With a 2KHz cut off for the left speaker and a 4 KHz for the right speaker I seem to have my cake and it it too. The soundstage is superb, and the high frequencies sound even better than no DRC

It seems that with my room's severe problems DIRAC is constructing some pretty large amplitude / steep filters. These "strong" filters have changed the perceived sound to be very correct but somewhat lifeless. Limiting the filter window eliminates the perceived lifelessness completely..

I have to say the sonic result is pretty amazing and beyond my most optimistic expectations

HI, I'm curious as to what size was your measurement area (height as well as depth and width) ?

SOFA measurement setting

Height +/- 30 cm total

Total Width 120 cm, i.e. +/- 60 cm from listening position

Front / back +/- 20 cm

At Computer Audiophile, I have asked others about whether they used chair or sofa, but received less than a handful of responses

I used the Chair setup, but pretty wide.

But we have pretty opposite situations, as I have a extensively treated room and took great care to position the speakers as good as possible before even using Dirac. So as I said, the difference Dirac makes is rather small..

IMO, you should at least try to improve your room before using any digital room correction. I realize a living room is not a recording studio and there are many compromises to be made, I mean aesthetics and room treatment don't always go too well together, but the better the in room speaker response is, the less Dirac has to work and the better the end result will be.

As I have a serious listening room with lots of GIK panels and speakers distances measured by laser
it's absolutely non-negotiable to move speaker or room treatments in the living room.

In the serious listening room I am trying to put together a Redbook to DSD conversion on the fly system
