Hi there,

Is there an upgrade path provided for existing owners of OpenDRC boxes? What is the upgrade price and how the process can be accommodated?

Thank you in advance,

Stefanos.

Just to Clarify,
You are looking to looking to upgrade to the DDRC-22D from the OpenDRC-DI?

I believe I saw that there was different firmware, but the same hardware platform. So its not possible to simply buy the new plugin.
Last I knew, devteam was looking into it.

I believe it will be more involved than a simple (user) firmware change. You'll probably have to send the unit back to them for retrofit and/or maybe they'll run some sort of exchange program.

Dear All,

You've got some really good answers already from the Doug and Dave! As mentioned above, you unfortunately can't just buy a plug-in I'm afraid as you'll need to ship the unit back to HK so we can enable and lock a license for it due to royalty requirement with Dirac. We do have an upgrade link now on the website.

Hoping this info helps and feel free to email us if any questions.

Thank you devteam.

What is the exact process for getting the upgrade? (for example how do I ship the unit to you? What do I need to include or write outside the box? etc.)
Also, my unit is silver in color. Will I only get a black faceplate or a whole new enclosure?

Thank you in advance,

--Stefanos.

The upgrade costs $500 (if you have a Umik1) or $570 without + postage - which from South Africa would be around $100 - so to UG my unit would cost $600 - I paid $299 - so whats the point? It ends up at $899 anyway - so you might as well buy a Dirac at $899 less the $70 for a umik1 (assuming you have one) rather than messing with the openDRC unit aand sending it back and forth which is a major inconvenience
Is Dirac sooo much better than say , acourateDRC ?

Hello RodneyGold,

if you have access to a PC and a measurement microphone you could make your own judgement at no cost by downloading the two weeks free trial version of Dirac Live:
www.dirac.se/en/consumer-products/dirac-rcs.aspx
and comparing it with the two weeks Acourate Trial version:
www.audiovero.de/en/downloads.html
but it looks like the Acourate trial is not a working version as it does not allow generation of filters (some functions are limited also)

@ Stefanos,
The exact process is as follow:
- Contact us directly so we can provide an RA#. Here is our contact form. www.minidsp.com/support/contactus
- Ship the unit back to us. Once we receive it, we upgrade it within 2 days
- We unfortunately don't have any grey enclosures anymore so we'd upgrade your enclosure to a new box if that's ok with you.
- We ship it back to you.

That easy. :-)

Hi devteam,

Thank you for clarifying the upgrade process. Does payment need to be provided before the RA# is issued, or afterwards?

One last question:

How does the latency compare between the OpenDRC and Dirac ? I am currently quite happy with the latency that I am getting from my OpenDRC-AN unit. How much more delay will be introduced by the newer Dirac firmware?

Thank you again,

--Stefanos.

Stefanos,

- Placing and order for the upgrade link and then sending us an email is the easiest.
- To be confirmed with the measurement but will most likely be similar (or lower knowing it's running @ 96k) based on the DSP resource usage.

Dear devteam, trust my post finds you well.
I'm an enthusiatic owner of opendrc for my stereo equipment but i consider limiting the maximum sampling ate of 48 khz, so consider this upgrade a good opportunity.
I' would like to have some explanation about.
  1. is it a hw/fw upgrade? or only fw?
  2. will be the maximum sampling rate for a stereo application up to 96 khz?
  3. Considering to maintain the acourateDRC application , is it possible to upgrade the sampling rate to 96khz with the half of the samples? (3k instead 6k)

Many thanks in advance.
Regards

I am obviously Not devteam.
However, I believe I can answer:
1 The unit must be RMA'ed for an upgrade. Its not just another plugin.
2. The Driac series runs at 96 kHz.
3. As soon as I get my openDRC-DI, I plan to get the miniSHARC 96 kHz plugin and try to see what I can do. My understanding is that the miniSHARC will run either 48 kHz or 96kHz depending on the plugin, and its possible to re-assign resources to get more taps than the default if you are only using 2 channel in and out.
Its still less than half the taps of 48 kHz, so it may or may not work in your application.
