First time poster! Considering a mini 8x12 for my car audio build and am using it with a factory head unit. Am I correct in thinking the unit does not offer auto sense and must be triggered via the remote wire input?

Have a look at page 17 of the 8x12’s manual.  That’s where power on options are explained as well as remote triggering.

Thank you, but I was asking about the remote turn on lead to trigger the dsp to turn on, not the OLED remote

The trigger you want is there. See page 17. The head unit can trigger the dsp which can then trigger your power amps. It’s auto sense in it detects the 12v rather than a signal on an input.

Maybe I don't understand. This shows that if I don't use a remote lead, the unit is always on. Is that not correct? I do not have a remote wire from the head unit as it is a stock deck with no remote lead

Right so you’re using the speaker outs into the dsp and head unit has no analogue or 12v trigger. So you need to power it from a 12v supply that’s only live when the ignition is on rather than always live. Your head unit turns off when you turn off the ignition so your vehicle definitely has this type of supply. Most vehicles 12v outlet only works with ignition key turned on.

Got it. My head unit does not have a switched power source as it is done via canbus communication. There is however a switched power source at the HVAC module which is close by so I can tap in there
