Hi,

Has anyone successfully implemented the 8x12 DL in a Stereo Home set-up?

It seems a really great device as it accepts digital signals and has enough assignable channels to allow active bi/tri-amping plus integration of subs. And on top of all that you get Dirac. On the downside it’s designed for Car Audio so there are issues to overcome.

How have you guys managed it?

I connect it to off the shelf 2.1 system while waiting for Dirac V2.
So far so good.
PC --> (Optical In TOSLink) CDSP (RCA out) -->2.0 2-way bi-amped active speaker + 0.1 wireless sub.

CDSP gets kinda warm, that's about it.

Just change the DIP switch and it's ready to go.

Ah slide switch, mistaken.

Your question regarding "Note that these are fully differential inputs." Other thread
I think it is just a document error. It's for the next section "High-level input".
RCA wired is single ended.
I have tried PC <> RCA <> CDSP <> RCA <> Active Speaker.
My RCA cable is low quality, thus noise can be heard at the tweeter when listening at < 1meter.
Optical has 0 extra noise. Some noise is there but it's speaker's internal active class D noise.

Ah makes sense now.
Thanks for addressing the other question too.

What did you use before the cdsp?
How do you find the quality? I’ve concerns using something meant for the car in a “hi-if” set-up. I’m sure there are some great sounding car systems out there but none where I live so makes me sceptical!

I dont have much experience with other sound systems, I only listen to what I bought.

>>What did you use before the cdsp?
Hardware wise, I started with minidsp's 2x4 for my car. It was very lacking even with the 13?16? biquad 'Advanced' settings.
Then after ~6 months, I finally found Neutron (Android music player app) that has 30 EQ band L, 30 EQ band R adjustments over Bluetooth. (the developer just expanded to 60 L, 60 R from 30 L 30 R early this year (2020), before corona).
I used the UMIK to measure (something like Dirac, 10+ mic position) and then apply the EQ (without correcting phase) in laptop's Equalizer APO to check sound profile. After finalising the sound profile, I dump the frequency, gain, Q factor numbers into Neutron.
So... mainly used software after the 2x4.

Quality wise, it does what it says on the label and what others are saying. The impulse response correction makes the instruments a lot less smeary (I've tried rePhase once, similar effect but too much effort). The high airy/tingling sounds is very, very good.

Issues with Dirac... like some others are saying: there may be some 'centering' position problems. You'll need to adjust abit (TA, EQ) after Dirac-ing.
Also, maybe get a mic tripod and measure the positions of the mic. I found it to be more 'centered' vs shaky hand mic measurements.

Well actually I don’t have any MiniDSP products... yet.

I know I want to try something with room correction - the principle just makes total sense. I’ve been pulling my system together for years. The stereo is currently a Linn CDP and Primare NP30 (most CDs now ripped to Synology NAS) as the sources and Krell KAV 400xi Integrated with Soendor S3e’s and Rel Strata 5 sub.

I have a Primare SPA21 (an older AV amp that still sounds superb but lacks latest tech). I could just go with some room correction in the form of a MiniDSP SHD but I kind of want to future proof knowing I could go active using the SPA21’s multichannel input and channels of amplification.

So at the moment I’m trying to find the right MiniDSP product that allows me to expand or avoids the need completely.
