Introducing the OpenDRC-DA8, a cost effective multichannel audio processor with floating point capabilities. Powered by Analog Devices Sharc processors, the OpenDRC-DA8 engine handles complex audio filtering such as room correction, FIR crossover filtering, reverb engines…

The OpenDRC-DA8 also performs as a DAC with its digital input (SPDIF) to analog outputs. Thanks to the on-board Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter (ASRC), digital audio is converted to the proper rate. On the output side, an AKM 8channel DAC provides unbalanced audio on RCA. The learning remote feature and/or rotary encoder will allow control of the active preset or master volume without the need of any PC once the unit is configured.

Last but not least, the OpenDRC-DA8 follows the footstep of our proven miniDSP concept: “One hardware, many plug-ins”. An easy to use platform that received praises for its simplicity of use. Leverage a large community of 3rd party and take it one step further in harnessing DSP powers for your projects. From advanced room correction to full featured linear phase crossover, the OpenDRC opens up a new range of audio processing solutions!

Application notes on OpenDRC Series

Introducing the world of Digital Room Correction (DRC), a process where digital filters are used to correct speaker + room aberrations. A 3 step process yet an acoustical challenge where DSP & Math Gurus use all resources to solve this complex problem. The following lines will summarize the basics of room correction in a setup involving a PC/Mac with a measurement/filter generation software, a measurement microphone and an audio processor (OpenDRC).

rePhase is a Windows-based freeware program written by Thomas (aka "pos"), a long time miniDSP community member. rePhase generates finite impulse response (FIR) filters that "reverse" the phase shifts introduced by a loudspeaker crossover. rePhase can also generate linear-phase crossovers. With the aid of a real-time FIR filtering engine or "convolver" such as miniDSP's OpenDRC or miniSHARC, the result is a linear-phase loudspeaker system.

This tutorial will provide a walk-through of filter creation using Filter Hose to linearize a loudspeaker frequency and phase response. Data will be exported to MiniDSP OpenDRC.

Excellent product - I have owned it for about a year and have no complaints at all. I use it as the crossover for a 3-way custom built scanspeak project. I have it setup running IIR filters for each crossover and EQing the individual drivers while simultaneously using the FIR filters for phase adjustment, resulting in a linear phase loudspeaker which sounds incredible, especially for the price! Overall I'm very pleased with the flexibility of the unit and above all the resulting audio quality. As the previous review mentions, there is also little to no noise experienced.

Incredible product. Absolutly no noise, so many functions. FIR filters. SPDIF input and 8 analog output. Excellent.
