miniDSP 2x4 HD
MiniDSP 2x4 HD, a USB DAC+DSP in a low cost package powered by a powerful Sharc 400MHz floating point DSP Array
Introducing the long-awaited “reboot” of miniDSP’s best-selling 2x4 digital audio processor: the miniDSP 2x4 HD! This tiny powerhouse is jam-packed with miniDSP’s tried and proven audio processing functionality: flexible para-metric EQ, Butterworth and Linkwitz-Riley crossovers, advanced biquad pro-gramming, and delay on each output channel. miniDSP’s “one hardware many plugins” concept allows for many interesting future applications!
The upgraded on-board 400 MHz Analog Devices SHARC processor also ena-bles substantial processing upgrades previously available only on more ex-pensive platforms, such as 96 kHz internal processing for true high-resolution audio capability and assignable FIR filter taps for sophisticated equalization, crossover, and room correction capabilities. All to be accessed and programmed with miniDSP’s easy-to-use interface software.
I/O capabilities get an upgrade too, with the addition of USB audio streaming up to 192 kHz and a TOSLINK digital input. The miniDSP 2x4 HD will find application in full-sized hifi and home theater systems, on desktops, in cars, in recording studios — anywhere a compact, simple, yet surprisingly powerful DSP audio processor is needed.

Application notes on miniDSP 2x4 HD
In this application note, we will show you how to design an active 2-way loudspeaker with the miniDSP 2x4 HD. Using the 2x4 HD, you can either create a conventional (Linkwitz-Riley or Butterworth) crossover, or a linear phase crossover.
In this application note, we will show you how to integrate a subwoofer with your existing loudspeakers by using a miniDSP 2x4 HD. You can use an existing preamp, or replace a preamp and a DAC with the miniDSP 2x4 HD. (In the latter case, you will need to program a remote control to adjust volume in the miniDSP 2x4 HD.)
In this app note, we will demonstrate subwoofer integration for miniDSP's stereo Dirac Live processors using only the Dirac Live app for measurement
In this application note, we show you how to use Room EQ Wizard (REW) and its integration with miniDSP to equalize your subwoofer.
I really like this unit and would recommend it to others for digital 2-way crossover (DIY m, subwoofer integration, room EQ. My use so far has been a 2-way system, each channel comprised of a 6" woofer and planar midtweeter. Currently I'm using Bessel filters at 1kHz with tweeter polarity inverted. I purchased this unit instead of the original 2x4 because I wanted digital inputs, and the option to load FIR filters. USB audio is a huge feature, allowing any computer to play music with excellent sound quality. (I have found that some cheap USB -> Toslink devices force Windows to resample to 48kHz; Windows resampling has a lowpass filter at 5kHz!) The USB input offers MUCH improved sound vs. the analog inputs coming from a laptop or cell ph I found it fairly easy to get started with REW. I measure each driver several times, apply windowing and average the resp. The input EQs can then be used for reducing room modes and applying a "house curve". I am having issues with calibration in REW (sometimes the resultant EQ curve produces a very bright or thin sound) but have been compensating for this by ear with the Input EQs. Apart from the REW issues, which have nothing to do with the unit, I do have a few issues so far which keep it from being a 5-star review. 1. Sometimes the plugin requires resynchronization although nothing has changed. 3. Sometimes the PEQ display becomes unresponsive to settings changes and plugin requires restartMike Kuehn
miniDSP 2x4HD Calibration System (Oct 2016)
John Sciacca takes us through the steps of tuning his room with a 2x4HD with the help of REW + UMIK-1
''This is certainly no substitute for taking an audio calibration course such as those offered by the Home Acoustics Alliance. However, this is a terrific way to get your feet wet in audio calibrations for a minimal investment, add a justifiable “audio calibration” line item to your installs, and leave a client’s home with measured proof that you have made their system sound as good as possible in their room.''
