Summary:
Need a way for USBStreamer B initialize with external ADAT by default, so it work upon plugin in iPAD.
Did not find a way to configure streamer to external clock while plug into the iPAD.

Test Setup:
iPad Pro 11" 2020 (USB-C port)
RME ADI-648 (ADAT)
Powered USB Hub.

What works:
8xADAT channela show up on iPAD (both AUM and AudioBus apps) upon USB-C plugin.
"Some" audio is going in/out of streamer, except that it is unusable because lots of click.

What seems broken:
Diagnostic LED on ADI-648 indicates the USBStreamer is not synchronizing . There is no synch problems with other ADAT equipments on same ADI-648.

Using USBStreamer as master clock is not an option on this setup, the master clock has to be the ADI-648.

I am able to change to external synch with Windows, but it is pointless because need to unplug/plug USB-C into the iPAD for it to recognize the ADAT ports.

(Upon unplug, the configuration reverts to internal, and that is the problem).

Proposed Solution
This was in another thread: Release firmware variants that forces always external synch.
As needed, I volunteer to test a "beta" version on my setup.

Thanks.

I have the exact same request.
USBStreamer (clock slave) via ADAT to RME UCX audio card (clock master).
Thanks.

Hello,

I think I have the same problem (?)
Using an iPad with an USBstreamerB, I'm trying to catch the ADAT into a Clarett 4 pre USB but no sound at all going into the ADAT / Clarett input...
All seems fine with the USBStreamer into AUM, all ADAT's output are there, sound seems to run correctly, but nothing into the Clarett :(
The Clarett can't lock the sync while in ADAT mode...It's fine while set as internal, but no sound.

Any recommended firmware ?

Thanks !.

Hi crony,

Glad to hear that you got it working. Was it a misconfig in the Focusrite interface?

Any chance additional firmware to be released that forces the unit to be a clock slave? I also want usb streamer to be a clock slave on ios device. I have two units one for Toslink and another for adat.

Cheers!

bump - would also like to use this with iPad Pro / iOS and make the clock slave to ADAT input. Is there a way to edit firmware and enable this?

Same here, USB Streamer is a good device and could be even great, if able to sync to external clock.
Pleeeeeeeeease release firmware, that lets us do that!!!!!!

I was of course talking about Class Compliant Mode. The Win / Mac control panel app does allow for this

I'm considering buying an USBStreamer now and, I would need this functionality. It needs to be able to slave to the clock of its ADAT input when connected to a device like e.g. the Akai Force, so I can record multiple channels sent from the rest of my DAW setup. The Akai Force now supports class compliant USB audio interfaces. My main DAW PC has RME Digiface + RME Multiface audio interfaces and a few ADAT preamps. It's no option to let the DAW PC be the clock slave, it has to be the clock master. Is there a firmware now that allows defaulting to ADAT slave mode on the USBStreamer (or MCHStreamer for that sake)?

@bjornars Don't hold your breath. Been more than one year and got no reply from miniDSP on this problem.

As for me, the problem was "resolved" (the USB streamer remained unusable for our purpose and we went another way).

So you all are saying the USBStreamer B always defaults to internal clock when plugged in? I had been plugging it into my MacBook Pro and setting clock source to external (ADAT), then unplugging it and plugging it into my iPad's hub, thinking the USBStreamer was remembering the setting. I've been pulling my hair out for hours trying to figure out the pops and clicks I have been hearing.

So is there no way to use the USBStreamer B with an iPad and have the USBStreamer use the ADAT/external clock source?

From my knowledge part of usb C standard says the usb c device has to be the master clock. So you’d need an interface that can resample the adat input (symphony desktop, apollo twin, etc)

I run my iPad Pro to symphony desktop and Apollo with no click pops or issues.

No, currently no way to switch to clock slave on ios. And yes resampling can make recording usb streamer's output at least work, not the other way around though.

To me, the question (and request) is more about a way to switch the device to clock slave on ios device, likely easiest answer would be additional firmware.

Yeah there are  workarounds to make this setup work, but the point is, if I have known the limitation, I wouldn't have purchased the unit in the first place.
