my unit is SN#700-0025‏ but I think I'm having same issues as the later batches. Getting signal is too low error and frequency response sweep has random spikes.

Have emailed minidsp few days ago, but no response so far. The refund offer only is open til 14/5/2013??

Thanks,
Tuyen

I own mic 0244. I was expecting to see an email as described in the first post. Was that ever sent out? I also see that this offer only lasts until May 16th. I am glad I stumbled across this forum/thread, otherwise I never would have known about my options.

I would like a brand new microphone that has the correct sensitivity and no spikes - but sounds like that is not an option, so I guess I will be trying to replace the PCB.

"- SPL meter in REW: Finally, some of you noticed that REW would not correctly report the dBSPL value in the SPL meter. With the great help of John, we've been finding an offset that now need to be carried out on both REW and the calibration file. Once a script goes on the file and modifies the value, an announcement will be made along with the request for you to "download" the REW install package. Please bear with us for this small inconvenience. "

Any word on when the calibration file will be fixed? Or was there already an email sent out on this?

It is a bit annoying they have put a deadline of for any returns by 16/5/2013 but they won't even respond to the emails...

very frustrating.

could of spent same amount of money and bought a Dayton usb mic that is known to be good and reliable..

Ed,

Option2 (i.e. receiving a new PCB) is essentially similar to doing a rework. It's really for end users that can't solder a cap on the PCB. :-) The modified PCB has a bit of other modifications but that's mainly to modify the overall analog gain. You can easily do the same with the DIP switches (see other comments below).

One advise, have a try at adding the cap. It's really the simplest modification as already shown by George. If you have any issues or run into some problems or board doesn't work, just feel free to contact us and we'd be happy to ship you a new board. Sending a simple email to us will suffice. Makes sense?

DevTeam

Hello Devteam,

Thanks for your reply to my question. I've been able to open up the microphone and get the board out, and have a few of the suggested capacitor on the way (expected here on 15 May).

I can see where this mod could be a challenge with the tools I've got available, but am going to give it a go; will advise before the end of the day on 16 May whether I've been successful.

Thanks again for keeping us abreast of the revisions and remedies.

Ed

Well I got a reply last night, pretty good if you ask me :) I like the fact that I'm able to send it to a Canadian location vs back to miniDSP, it shows that they are evolving to the market.

Received my PCB and cannot open the back of the Umik-1. Tried all suggestions plus some of my own. It appears the threads are seized. As you can see from pic. it is getting damaged. The pins I tried are bent . DevTeam please advise . This is why I wanted to exchange this unit for another but it was not an option.

Mine seemed to be doped with a thin threadlocker, and it took a bit of back-and-forth to break the ring free... after that, it was smooth sailing.

I tried back and forth here are the pins from another attempt bent them right over.

Hi, I had the same problem. Some sort of glue was used to lock the ring. That made it very difficult to open the microphone.

The solution was to have only 2 mm of the pins extending from the vise. Then the torque on the pins remains sufficiently low to prevent bending. This worked but I had to use a lot of force to move the ring.
