I have recently received my UMIK-1 and started testing it with REW. However I get really weird measurements compared to my Behringer ECM8000 mic. The frequency response curve rises with more than 30 dB from 40 Hz to 1.5 kHz (I've tried both with and without the calibration file). This is with subs and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 calibration enabled. The ECM8000 curve is much flatter. See attached image.

Is there something wrong with the mic, or am I measuring incorrectly?

It looks like there's no signal.

Well, there is signal, but it's very weak, especially for the lower frequencies. I don't understand what can cause this kind of behaviour.

Hello,

Mmmh this is indeed odd. Few things you could test out to see what's going on here:
- Just double confirm that the microphone is indeed correctly recognized and working. Using the RTA function on REW. Just sing in front of capsule to see if it's frequency dependend.
- There is a 48/44.1k drop down menu for the microphone. Which one did you select?
- Which REW are you using for this test?
- It's possible that we're looking at very low measurement since the UMIK-1 doesn't have the same sensitivity.. You might have to run your measurement at higher level (e.g. bring mic closer).

Keep us updated and we can take it from there.

In the sound device settings in Windows 7 it says 24 bits, 48 kHz and it's not possible to choose anything else. In REW I've tried both 44.1 and 48 kHz with the same results.

I'm using REW 5.01 Beta 13 build 2863.

When I use the SPL meter in REW the value is about 40 dB without any test tone. When I generate a 1 kHz sine wave using the generator the SPL value goes up to about 57 dB. When I generate a 100 Hz sine wave the SPL value goes up to about 43 dB. This seems very odd to me. Btw, I've observed the same results on a friends setup.

Hello Jesper,

Something is indeed odd. Easiest that we ship you a replacement unit.

From investigating with our customer service team, we've actually figured out that you are already in contact with our tech support team. Please in the future either use the Forum or email to prevent duplicated/confusion for our team. Thanks! :-)

I started by posting in the forum, but didn't get any reply from you so I sent an email to the support team. I would prefer to continue the correspondence by email.
