Hi,
Yesterday, I redownloaded my umik-1 calibration files. However, I noticed a small difference in the first line:
New: "Sens Factor =3.507dB, SERNO: 7036481"
Old: "Sens Factor =-0.01521dB, SERNO: 7036481"



Both are from the 90degree files.


I am curious about what might have caused that difference?

Does the difference have any implications when used by dirac? I suppose using the new one is better.

I can confirm this for my UMIK-1 too:

New : "Sens Factor =-0.0220001dB, SERNO: 7016704"
Old : Sens Factor =-3.022dB, SERNO: 7016704

New 90deg : "Sens Factor =-0.0220001dB, SERNO: 7016704"
Old 90deg : Sens Factor =-3.022dB, SERNO: 7016704

I've just checked and if I download new calibration files for my UMIK-1 I also get different sensitivity factors now than I did when I first downloaded them in January 2018.

I'll test it later but my guess is that factor will just change the overall sensitivity calibration as all frequencies equally, so the shape of any frequency response won't change but the overall level will.

We'll probably need to contact support to ask which factor is likely to be more accurate.

I forgot to say, if this does just change overall level then it won't make any difference for Dirac live. Home cinema calibration to an absolute level would be affected though.

Mine has been an exact 3 dB increase like yours. The OP had a different change though.

According to support, the calibration files (only sensitivity) has been updated as part of a REW update to keep the SPL levels accurate, see:

So this means miniDSP is making a HW product more compatible to a SW product. since when its going this way?
Do we need now an adapted version of Dirac Live for the NEW cal files too, think so?
If Dirac Live is assuming the cal file is correct, the speaker levels will be off by the amount of changes in the sens level.

my 2cents, this is crap miniDSP. if a product is for years in the market one does not change afterwards the cal files for a new SW product.
and if really needed, name the new files like "cal file for use with REW v5.xxx" and leave the original files there as well.

As I posted above, absolute level makes no difference in Dirac Live and so there isn't actually any sort of problem caused by this for Dirac Live measurements and filter creation.

Dirac Live doesn't even display absolute levels actually. I wish it did though, as it would make it much easier to match responses when trying to run comparisons, and it's one of the aspects where I find REW superior.

For info. the effect of the cal file change for me is that all measured values are 3 dB lower than before.
