I just got my new UMIK-1. I wanted to use it to set the speaker levels on my fathers AVR using the SPL measurement in REW. I have downloaded the calibration files and saved them to my Macbook Pro, and loaded the 90 degree file when prompted by REW. I have the latest 5.18 version of REW installed. I am using the supplied USB cable and have the mic placed in the center of the listening area pointed straight up. I select the SPL meter in REW and set it to Z weighted and slow sampling.

I activated the test tone function on the AVR which generates the usual white noise tone. At first after clicking the record button, the measurement seems about right, around 66-67dB, but after a few seconds of measuring, the SPL starts to drop towards 30dB and it seems that the mic is not responding properly, even if I tap the mic it does not show any spikes in SPL. If I stop the measurement, disconnect the USB cable from the mic and start over, it behaves the same.

When I use the RTA tool, it seems like the mic is working correctly, but the SPL meter seems to behave strange. I don't know if this is a problem in REW or if I have a defective UMIK-1.

Anyone else seen this SPL meter behavior or am I doing something wrong? I have not yet tried running a room sweep using my laptop as an input source since I don't have the necessary cable at the moment.

@ cbope

This is quite odd.. Almost sounding like an unstable USB connection that is most likely related to the USB cable not being pushed all the way in.. (typical on first time use)

I've got the feeling that you've got maybe a tech support opened with our team as well through our portal (support.minidsp.com)?
If so, easiest to let them take it from there under that tech support ticket.
