I have a MiniDSP UMIK-1 that I bought for calibrating speaker sound systems.

However, I just had the idea that this sort of mic would be useful to tune an acoustic guitar. Perhaps more accurately than the tuners with likely lesser quality mics on them.

Is there an application for Window/OSX that can use the UMIK-1 for this? (or maybe a better suggestion/idea)

Neat idea, but the accuracy of the microphone is irrelevant for this application. I don't know the answer to your last question, but I have messed with some app on my iPad (now lost/stolen :evil :S   ) that does frequency counting, I'm sure a search will turn up Windows or Mac apps.
