I have read from a few people that packaging is bad on the UMIK-1.

I got mine in record time, shipping was great. The box looks fine from the outside for the most part.

But I opened it up and the case is cracked with pieces inside the bag.

The mike doesn't look damaged but the foam on the microphone end of the unit is all torn up and it looks like the microphone due to some sort of high force like being dropped actually tore through all the foam and broke the case with the microphone end of it.

The plastic bag around the microphone end is scarred some.

Microphone looks okay, but from the broken box and torn foam it definitely was jarred very hard and could be damaged.

If the microphone works (haven't tested it yet) could a shock like that still have messed up its calibration?

Thanks,

Daniel

The mike appears to work. Plugged into PC and light went blue.

I'm using an old WinXP laptop. Haven't installed REW or other software yet.

But recorded myself talking into the microphone in Audacity and the recording sounds good.

So that's good at least.

I'm still worried about the impact force of whatever happened messing up calibration. Let me know.

Thanks.

@ danielrg

Sorry to see this shipping damage. We ship UMIK-1 everyday worldwide and we're seeing this issue very rarely so the statement "packaging is bad" is I think maybe something from old shipments (where box, packing wasn't the same thickness).

Easiest would be to get in touch with our tech support team, they can help to organize a new case for you.
