Beware - FedEx is wanting an additional duties fee when you get your package from this site.

Of course you don't find out about it until a month later when you get a bill in the mail. I talked with FedEx and they told me that the shipper (minidsp) said that us purchasing the unit are responsible for the fees.

So what your being told is the cost of the unit plus the shipping is not true and they know it...

Sheesh.. Well, if you think it's a "scam" you should talk to your local parliamentary representative about it, as it's your government that makes the laws that say you have to pay duty on imported items.

The miniDSP FAQ says:

"Custom/Import Duties: Customer shall bear all country, provincial, government, state and local sales, use, goods and services, value added, privilege and similar levies/taxes. Please contact your local custom office to learn of your country's import fee structure."

Yes and knowing the above, when I ordered mine I asked minidsp if they could give me the instrastat com codes so I could use our uk gov website to look up the charges.

MOST folk know that when you order something from outside if the EU you have to pay duties and taxes. Sorry you've been caught unaware bit you'll know when ordering stuff from abroad next time.

Minidsp doesn't make anything extra from the duties so it definitely isn't a scam, jus the way it is

Hello Jamie,

Sorry to hear that you feel this way. Unfortunately each country has different shipping/import tax code which are indeed outside the cost of the shipping. I don't believe that we're doing a scam since it's indeed part of the last step of the shopping cart to click on Terms & Conditions.

Feel free to email us if you have any separate inquiries.

Not a "scam," of course, but miniDSP doesn't ship through the post office any more? I didn't have any extra duties on mine, which were routed through USPS for the last mile.

Hello. A shame I did not discover this post until now.
I have been waiting for 13 days for shipping details so I contacted them and they said it was going to cost an extra US$28 in freight. I already paid $35 US.
That’s a total of US$63 for one simple microphone from Hong Kong to Australia.
Not happening.
I have written back with options that include tracked post and refund. That much freight for one microphone is crazy.
The fact remains they have a website that calculates freight. If it is wrong and there is a history of it being wrong (above post), they should not offer online shopping and instead offer to contact them for confirmed freight before purchase, so that customers know what they are going to have to pay BEFORE committing to a sale.

@Tasadam

As we already clarified by email, unfortunately Tasmania (Island quite far from Australia) isn't the rate we had in our system for Australia (mainland). Hence the mismatch in the quotation. Both DHL/Fedex/UPS simply had a large surcharge for the extra shipping. We do our utmost best to already heavily sponsor the cost of shipping to any destination (more than 30USD to AU actually) Unfortunately we can't cover such high surcharge knowing the low margin we operate with.. :-(

Your order was already refunded back to you. Sorry we couldn't ship to your location.

You could have just said “we are bad at our job”.

that’s not fair….. they tried to ship to u

just because it costs more to ship , and a misunderstanding was made , does not in no way make it poor customer service.

there good that there job, there also people not robots.

they said sorry ….. publicly…  just order from a 3rd part that can ship to AU more economically.
