The Volumio interface works well enough but the volume slider is very hard to control on a phone. Since trialing Roon I realized I started using it regularly because the interface made it much easier to control the volume and prevented me from accidentally playing something at extremely loud volume when trying to turn it up just a little bit.

Most of the functions I use are already handled by the SHD Volumio interface, so it seems crazy to pay for roon and the associated server solely for a better volume control. If it was possible to add those buttons it would really help those of us using phones/tablets to control the volume. 

PS- I'm also looking forward to the surface dial plugin as a way to smoothly make volume adjustments from the listening position. 

If you have an Android phone I'd suggest you give the Bubble upnp app a try. This will give you the volume control that you want and you may find other benefits too. The volume control in Volumio via Android is far too coarse to be useful.

Just in case you aren't aware, note that if you control Volumio from a Windows laptop/PC then there is a graphical rotary control that provides fine adjustment of the volume level. I'm not sure about the situation on tablets or Apple devices. 

I use the miniDSP remote control to adjust volume much of the time myself.
