I've been waiting for an upgraded 8-ch DSP for a decade now. 
There's nothing on the market that does 8-ch DSP + DAC + volume control. you can't even find 8ch DAC+volume control, the only device that does this is Okto and they can't meet supply.

Key for me would be higher spec DSP performanc, since currently the 4x10 HD is inferior to the 2x4 HD despite the similar naming convention.

A 2 in 6 or even 8 output device is what I'd personally be most interested in, to allow 2 or 3-way active main speakers to be integrated with a subwoofer.

Yes i'm on board looking at the new flex version with the digital outputs maybe they can design a simple extension box that takes in the spdif from the flex and connect a 4/6/8 output box without the screen and knob. That would serve the flex name...

FIR filters work great at 2k-Hz where 2000-tags can see several wave lengths ahead but at 20hz or even 200hz a mere 2000tags at the same sample speed as 2k-Hz is not enough.  I suggest you build a box with two processors one with a slow sample speed for 200hz and lower and another processor with a higher sample speed for 201Hz and greater.  Send the output of the low frequency sampler to the low analog output and send the output of the high frequency sampler to the high analog output.  Better yet allow the cross over point to be set in software.  Better yet provide a 2in-4out or 2in-8out, 4outputs per processor.  The cost of the double processor unit should not be double the cost of the single processor as it uses a common box, power supply, display, control knob, and analog outputs.  This would provide far more resolution than just doubling the number of tags may be as great as eight times the resolution.  And resolution is what you are after in the end. The two processor unit would provide a much higher performance to price ratio.       

(Im)patiently awaiting any news or even a hint of a 4x10 FLEX with blanched outs, can we get anything? I mean at the least, should I even be waiting?

Yep, 2 x 6 with DL is what I've been waiting for since first discovering minidsp.
Seems like such an obvious gap.
