Hi everybody,

Is there any plans to deliver a Curryman DAC with a balanced output. ?
If not, have you some right schemes to achieve this ?

The ES9023 DAC has unbalanced outputs and therefore you'd always need an unbalanced to balanced converter to add balanced outputs. There is no plan to make a new curryman DAC with balanced outputs.

However I did some unbalanced in to balanced output converter boards using line driver ICs e.g. from TI (DRV134) or That (1646). Just need some time to test the boards  They will most probably not be available through miniDSP but I could make them public so that everyone can order this boards from a pcb manufacturer (or organize a group buy) ;)

kind regards, Daniel

This is the balanced output board:

First measurements show that it works very well. No sound test yet but I expect it to be quite transparent.

Dear Daniel,

any news on this? Would it be possible to organize a group buy? I am pretty confident a bunch of people will find some interest.

Please let me know.

Kind regards,

Alex.

Dear Daniel,

any news on this?.

Well not really. Last months were quite busy with other things.

However the board works well and I have some few boards left. Just send me a PM. I'll not organize a GB, simply no time. But if someone would be willing to do so I would be happy to provide the Gerber files ;)

kind regards, Daniel

You mention TI (DRV134) or That (1646)

Are these improvements over an SSM2142 in some way? I've read they are all pin-compatible, but that doesn't mean they are the same. I'd be curious to know if DRV134 and / or THAT1646 are considered better-sounding than an SSM2142.

TI and THAT claim that their chips are improved equivalents to the SSM2142. This seems to hold true with respect to the specs. I did not compare both to the SSM2142, which I never used. Soundwise I think I prefer the THAT, however did not really perform extensive listening tests
If you have some of the SSM I'd say just use them. Otherwise at Mouser I think the THAT has the lowest price...

Thanks. I haven't started building anything yet, just the initial research prior to design, then building.

Again, thanks for the info.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread but if anyone has a working balanced output board I have a few questions as I am finally getting around to building mine:

is the R1 surface mount resistor needed and if yes what value?
also the parts that came from Aisler included a ton of 0603 surface mount .1uf caps and I do not know where these go on the PCB any ideas? could they have sent these in error?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Kevin
